Wow...I am really picky, and have an allergy to fish, shellfish, chicken so its always a challenge when Im not cooking myself to get anything thats got ample protein and of course flavor. So, imagine my pleasant surprise when the cafeteria has been visited by my dear cook and rebel Anthony Bourdain, and I tell you I heard him say " yeah, you in the right place kid...cop a squat." Between the gorgeous view, yes, I am in paradise, and the smoothie or 'frappe' as they call it which was refreshing and not overly sweet, and my coco water, i was in beverage heaven. But that did not even compare to the homemade peoper sauce, which I was warned..'cuidao' by my super chill waiter and local. I was not at all dissapointed by the burritto, veggie and full of real veggies! Amazing crunch, and black beans, red cabbage, cheese and zuchinni, its a blessing to have nourishment come to you and know that it was prepared with love. Gracias, familia de alma...soul family for making sure I had energy for this...
Read moreThis place is magical. You will eat within view of the beach while wild horses graze around you. Even horrible food would make this a must stop place. But the food is hardly horrible. It's really really good. I had huevos rancheros and they were some of the best I've had on all of Puerto Rico let alone vieques. The service is a little slow but be patient because you will see the owner taking orders and bussing tables. He is a really sweet guy. He is only set up to take cash or ATH móvil. So come prepared. We tried to pay with our ATH móvil app and the app was apparently down at the moment. The owner was genuinely worried for us since the app wasn't working. We had cash so there was no problem. But it's very refreshing to find owner operators that are more interested in their customers than money. The guy obviously has to eat and pay his bills so make sure to take care of him. But go eat a bruch here on Sunday (the only day he's currently open) and enjoy a few minutes...
Read moreGreat pina colado (made fresh, chucks of coconut!). Food menu was limited but we had huevos ranchero and birria pork tacos, both which were delicious. I had to take off a star because the staff seemed harried and annoyed with customers. We probably stood around for 15 minutes before anyone talked to us (other than to yell at us for going inside the building, which apparently customers aren’t allowed…no sign on that door saying anything like that though). We would have been super content with a 30 second checkin to communicate what the process was and where we should wait. Instead we just stood around awkwardly with staff moving around us with zero acknowledgement …and it happened to the 3-4 groups that came after us. Service was super friendly and attentive after we sat down and prices reasonable. It was just very strange and I think that little fix could make all the difference in a good...
