Smugglers Island Eats and Rum Shack — Restaurant in Isle of Palms

DO NOT EAT HERE. If I could give 0 stars, I would. • Slow service • Hot & humid indoors with no AC or adequate air movement • The speaker system was so loud our table of 5 quit talking to each other. • Someone in our party ordered meat that came so burnt she couldn't bite into it. • Another person had a moldy bun on their burger... it was green. • Fountain drinks were very watered down. • We were asked to give a card to open a tab despite communicating we were not ordering alcohol. The waiter said he would separate it at the end, but my card was immediately charged for the sweet teas ordered at the table that were not mine specifically. When we got our check, it was not itemized nor separated. • In additon to the point above, we were charged $6 more than our bill should have been even when we included tax. We didn't speak up because we were SO ready to just leave. • Food was ok.. nothing you can't easily & quickly make at home & for much cheaper • Mostly fried food • Take your time & money elsewhere or cook the...

The food here is basic bar food so it’s not super special but we liked it and it came out fast. I liked the environment of a small local bar but the service was not great. It was raining when we got there so everyone came inside and the bar tender was frazzled. it almost seemed like she was upset that they were busy. Multiple times she told people in my group she was “too busy” to fill the waters up and to just get it from the cooler. (I don’t mind getting the water from a cooler just the way she worded it made it seem like we were inconveniencing her that we were there) I think they need to find a new way or ordering or have more people taking orders. I have been to places with QR codes on the table where you order and pay so the order goes straight to the kitchen. The Smuggler Smashburger was a great choice! Double burger with cheese, pickles, and their special sauce and a side of fries, all made for an awesome meal. We ate at this restaurant in a pinch, and it was a good spot to grab a quick bite. However, I think the menu is pretty slim and could use a few more food options. While my burger was awesome, and the service was good, the atmosphere inside of the restaurant was pretty dark and plain. A splash of color or modernization would probably help. And to be fair, it was cold outside and I was not able to see the outdoor seating, but I’m sure that it’s probably better than the inside option. Walking in, it pretty much seemed like a hole in the wall bar. Regardless of my critiques, I enjoyed my burger and I would come here again if I wanted a quick bite to eat in Isle of Palms!
