I think everyone has a different perspective on taste and food. This review will not focus on evaluating the taste of the donuts but rather on the service and atmosphere they provided. In the food industry, service comes before food (literally), and it can significantly impact the entire experience. Unfortunately, Good Lazy Donuts did not offer good serviceāin fact, there was virtually no service at all.
I arrived around 10:30 a.m., and there was no line. When I walked into the shop, I felt confused about where to go. People were standing on both sides of the walls, and I wasnāt sure where the line started. The girl at the counter didnāt say a word but stared at me. I hoped for a simple greeting like, āI can help you over here!ā or āHi, how are you?ā To put it plainly, I felt unwelcomed. Some might argue, āThatās just your opinion,ā but ask yourself: Would you return to a place where no one greets or assists you?
After awkwardly positioning myself in front of the donut display, I scanned the flavors. The girl behind the counter (who was standing right in front of me) remained completely silent. She was just waiting for me to say which flavors. There were no explanations of the flavors, not even a basic āHave you been here before?ā (For context, Iād never visited this shop, though Iād been to Flour Box, which is familiar, so I knew the concept) A first-time visitor unfamiliar with specialty donut shops would feel utterly lost. The silence made the interaction painfully awkward, so I quickly chose three flavors. (Strawberry Lemonade, Tiramisu, Vanilla Bean)
When paying, the girl asked, āDo you want any coffee?ā I said no. She stated the total amount, pushed the box of donuts across the counter, said āYouāre all set,ā and walked away. Let me emphasize: If youāre charging $5 per donut, hand the box to the customerādonāt shove it. And at least wait until they pick it up before leaving, especially when itās not busy.
The workers seemed young, so I donāt blame themāI blame the owners/managers for failing to train them in customer service. If your focus is mass-producing donuts without prioritizing service, your business is one donut away from failure. Service quality, combined with product flavor and quality, is what ensures repetition of fair business.
A final note: If youāre pricing donuts at $5 each and comparing yourself to Krispy Kreme, your service should exceed theirs. Charging premium prices while offering subpar service makes no senseāand wonāt sustain a business.
My personal opinions on the taste: Tiramisu was by far the best tiramisu flavored donuts I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been waiting to write a review because brioche filled donuts are all the rage and I needed more data points to properly evaluate š¬ Weāve gotten donuts maybe through 3 or 4 flavor cycles now and I can say that the first time, we waited almost an hour and the quality was fine but nothing too special (dough a little stale and not fully filled donuts). By this latest flavor cycle, I do feel like they have corrected these minor issues and if you go at the right time, no wait needed! Blueberry cheesecake and strawberries & cream are my favorite flavors to date. I think their oatmeal cranberry cookie is the best and better than your average cookie. Iām more impressed with that cookie than their donuts! It is tempting but only buy the number of donuts within the first hour of leaving the store as thatās when theyāre the best! Edit to add my notes of other flavors: Thai Tea: excellent flavor and perfectly filled with pastry cream Oreo Cheesecake: a bit underwhelming in flavor and could use more cream cheese filling Whipped PB: light and flavorful! Matcha: good flavor and best when topped with homemade mochi cube Savory Everything: almost as good as the one from Mello in Vancouver Peaches & Cream: underwhelming peach flavor and not filled enough when I got it Cereal milk: was fine but there are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were excited to finally try Good Lazy after seeing so much buzz ā no line, fully stocked, it felt like our lucky day. Unfortunately, the experience didnāt live up to the hype.
Among seven of us, we tried nearly everything: donuts (every flavor), a cheese scone, browned butter cookie, drip coffee, ube latte, iced matcha, and more. Sadly, none of it impressed ā flavors were underwhelming, items tasted dry or off, and drinks werenāt served at the right temperature. The matcha was lukewarm, the āhotā latte was cold, and the drip coffee was more like leftover brew.
Service was also a disappointment. No greeting, no direction, and a generally strange vibe. One team member visibly struggled to take our order, spilling coffee and asking us to repeat ourselves multiple times. The baristas seemed disengaged, and the owner stood by without stepping in.
We genuinely wanted to like this place ā and were ready to pay for something great ā but the quality, service, and energy just didnāt match the price or reputation. Sadly, $65 later, we left confused and disappointed.
Posting photos to confirm our visit, since weāve seen the owner question past reviews. This was our honest experience, and we wonāt be returning. Issaquah has better options for coffee and baked goods, both in flavor and...
