Yesterday I drove by Massey's of Grove City and I felt a pit in my stomach over how it made me feel just to see it there and to be reminded of what happened to me there on 06/24/25 - and I realized that I hadn't done anything about it - which is an injustice to other people who love a good pizza in Grove City (GC).
Today, I reviewed the low ratings that they have received in recent days and I saw that the common factor was the same issue that I had, which was/is their Bartender. I do not know her name, but, I think it must be the same one that everyone else in the one-star reviews is referring to as being "awful." Could only be her.
Probably every pizza place, can have a bad day, or put out a bad pizza once in a while, I understand that and I can accept that, but in my case, I walked into the GC Massey's Pizza Sports Bar with a very burnt carryout pizza, in its box, specifically to show them how badly the pizza that we had ordered for carryout was, and that we had not realized it until we got it home and that I wanted a refund.
When she did finally come over, walking towards me from behind the bar, there was no "hi" or "hello," only "what do you need?" and I said "I'd like to show you this pizza, if I could" and she promptly told me in a very snide manner that she wasn't taking that back, and something about the health department, and when I asked her again if I could just show it to her she said "No." Now I was beginning to get a little stunned already over her lack of general respect, interest in my issue, and basic manners.
Professionalism? None. I immediately prepared myself not to even expect that from her based on her initial apathy and lack of manners towards me. But, we are in Grove City, and everyone is basically polite and understanding, but this woman does not belong in the hospitality business at all and she is the reason why my family, residents of GC for more that 30 years and regular customers of Massey's will never go back to that location.
I have encountered customer service people in the past who are maybe rough around the edges, or, they aren't empowered to act on issues, or, maybe they are just tired or grumpy and a little insensitive, but this woman is in a league all on her own. Her demeanor and behavior towards me, for goodness sake, made me wonder at the time of my interaction with her, what kind of an upbringing she had had to make her so extremely unkind, sarcastic and even a little sadistic, because she obviously enjoyed denying me even the opportunity to show her the burnt pizza which came from her own place of employment. She spoke over me, taunted me, would not let me explain - anything, and was unwilling to make anything right for me as a customer. I am a 60-year old, female professional, with a family, and a business of my own, and I am today letting the person or persons reading this that I have never been treated by someone in a business position the way she treated me.
She was awful, dismissive and rude. Thankfully, a much younger, much more professional and obviously better-educated woman who had been busy trying to manage or fix one of their machines walked over, asked us what the issue was, asked if she could see the pizza (appropriate and what any normal manager would and should do) and agreed that it was not as their pizzas should be. She took my number (appropriate) and said she would have her manager call me about issuing a credit, which he did call me.
I don't know that I expressed to him enough how awful the experience was and I don't feel that he was affected by what I did tell him about the experience. He actually advised me to call their corporate offices about my refund because he did not have the ability to do it - and the option to just have another pizza made?
No. I will not give any more business to a place that puts someone like that in charge of customers and I would like people to know about it, which is why I am writing this long review today. There are so many great pizza choices in GC and qualified, pleasant, and nice people to...
Read moreI thought giving the this place another chance by going to the lunch buffet and wow I was wrong. The salad bar ridiculous and you can see from the picture of it. We got there around noon and the same pizza sat on the bar for an hour and a half. It took several complaints form customers to bring some fresh pizza out to the buffet. All the pictures will say enough about how poorly kept the buffet was. The only thing you can’t see is how the lettuce looked spoiled. Once the customer complained for the last time the waitress walked over to the bar for the first time in the 2 hours we were there and she said I had no idea there wasn’t any pizza on the buffet. The place was not crowded and they waitress and bartender were doing nothing but standing around playing on their phones. I’m guessing we should have text it to then since they were on their phones most of the time. Finally when the buffet was ready to close down and there was enough complaints from the 8 people that were in there they brought out a bunch of pizzas right at 2:00. I don’t think I’ll go back to this location. Oh and this location doesn’t add a fountain drink in with the price of the buffet. The other Massey’s locations do because I called them...
Read moreMany observations on my first ever visit. The pizza was awesome! Love the cornmeal bottom. Hot. Delicious! Definitely gets a 4 to 5. The service? My friend said she had the same server before and she isn't very good. She's terrible! I had to go up to get a refill on my water and again to get another drink for my friend from the bar. Someone brought out the food together when the apps were supposed to come first. My mushrooms were missing. When they came out, they were not cooked. Ended up asking to remove them. Service barely deserved a 1 rating. The atmosphere is not one that makes me want to go back. There were 5 people standing and talking behind the bar while there were other tables that hadn't even been addressed. I mean, where's the manager to check up on customers? Shift change at 4. We got there about 315. Not sure why new servers couldn't acknowledge us as they walked by. What? We're not your table so who cares about us? Well, it's possible we could be your customer next time we come in. The lack of visible teamwork to take care of everyone is disappointing. It's not a place I'm gonna tell a bunch of friends to meet up at. Not a friendly, fun feeling, regardless of...
