The wait staff were nice and professional. Thus ends the good points of this restaurant. An indication of the professionalism of the wait staff was when the automatically discounted my sandwich, which came out so sodden that the bread had disintegrated... much of what we ordered appeared to be freezer-to-deep-fryer, which at least means they didn't inflict the culinary crimes of our sandwiches upon the fried stuff.
The highlight of our visit was the restrooms. In the mens' room, the graffiti was of such an obscene and explicit nature that truck stops would break out the paintbrush, and ask employees to avert their eyes while covering it up. And yet, the written obscenities were the least filthy thing in the room. The most memorable part was that the trough urinal had no running water, so 20 pounds of ice was dumped in it to melt and provide some flushing action. The wall and floor around the toilet were rotten with the corrosive action of poorly aimed streams. Although I'm a veteran of many Appalachia-area county fairs, with the laissez-faire approach to sewage common to such event, the only bathroom I could remember even close to this was in rural India.
The women in our group assured me that their restroom was just as memorable for the same reasons; apparently neither stall closed, and the soap dispenser was broken. The only comparison they could find was a remote village in sub-Saharan Africa which apparently was distressingly similar to this place.
While I'm sure they don't cook in the bathrooms, I cannot imagine a greater emphasis on hygiene and code compliance is applied to the kitchen. We will not be back, and the bellyaches most of us experienced that afternoon should serve as a warning to...
Read moreI used to go to Planks often, after golf outings. I haven't been in about two years prior to tonight... Firstly, the establishment was very dirty. It was evident the waitress did not care about providing any kind of customer service to my table. As soon as we sat down, she asked what we wanted to drink, cool. I ask if she had a menu because I wasn't familiar with the types of wine they have and that's what I really wanted. She came back with ONE food menu and said she had about 5 minutes to get an order into the kitchen a little after 9. I had about 10 seconds to look at it and she stood there the whole time asking if we knew what we wanted. She wrote down our food order and asked what we wanted to drink, my husband said bud light, I asked what products they had, she said Pepsi so I said I would have a water.... the budlight came, no water... Then someone looked over and told her I didn't have anything to drink. She gave me a dirty mug. My sub came out by itself and there were no napkins or anything. 20 minutes later she came out with the burger and potato skins my husband ordered. Sour cream was really watery. Still no napkins. Finally I asked for them and she said she didn't realize we didn't have anything. Gentlemen in polo shirt refilled my water after it sat empty. She came over one more time to ask if we needed anything else to drink because she was closing out the bill... I was really disappointed. I noticed a pregnant young woman who seemed to be busting her behind to take care of her customers, but ours was just no where to be found. I don't know what's going on in there, but someone needs to call John Taffer with Bar Rescue to straighten...
Read moreGood food. Terrible service! When we arrived on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, we were greeted by an older lady dressed as if she worked in the kitchen. She was not a happy camper. She seated us and advised that our server would be with us shortly. Same lady came back, took drink order and left. She brought back our drinks and took our food order on a napkin. A few minutes later, a different server came to our table. She asked to take our order. She then stated the other lady that took our order threw it away after seeing her come in. Threw it away instead of passing it on. Not long after our appetizer arrived then my meal and just my meal. It was at least 10 min later she brought out my guest's meal. About 10 min later, our server brought our bill. I found that odd since we were both still eating. Then our server kept walking by, with an annoyed look on her face, checking to see if I had laid anything down yet. I finally just decided to pay and leave since she clearly wanted her table freed up. This is the 2nd time I have been to this location. 1st time was many years ago. This was the first time my future daughter-in-law was here. We...
