We (there were 4 of us total) went to Mayflower Cafe for my friend's birthday dinner (birthday boy's 1st time to ever go there) 11/08/2022 at 6pm. We were seated; appetizer order taken and brought out; the waitress dropped the condiment container on the floor then put it on the table for us to use; one of the salad plates was dirty, with dried on salad dressing, so we asked for a clean one to which she replied "I just touched it!"; she began taking our entrée orders but walked away to help another table; when she finally came back absolutely nothing we chose to order was in stock: no Veal, no shrimp, no pasta, no calamari, no pork chops...NOTHING! And no one working there we had contact with had a pleasant attitude. As it was my friend's first time there AND his birthday meal, he emphatically stated he will never go there again - for any reason. It was bad. Really bad. Even the patrons seated at the center tables were oblivious to the fact no one could squeeze past them to get to where they were being seated at the rear! I was shocked, disappointed, and angry at the entire situation. We chose to leave without placing an order. WE had to ask patrons standing at the front waiting to be seated to move so we could get to the register to pay the very rude cashier (she was also waiting tables so leaving customers were her last thought) for the appetizer and sodas we had. I will not go back to Mayflower Cafe again either. Very bad experience for...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I had the pleasure of dining at the Mayflower Café on Friday, May 23, and it was a great experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by warm, hospitable staff who made us feel right at home.
The Southern cuisine was exceptional — fresh Gulf seafood cooked to perfection, and their legendary comeback sauce lived up to its reputation. It's a tangy, spicy delight that pairs wonderfully with just about everything on the menu.
The ambiance of the café is steeped in history. Established in 1935 by Greek immigrants George Kountouris and John Gouras, the Mayflower Café has maintained its classic charm over the decades. The Art Deco design, terrazzo floors with nautical motifs, and vintage booths transport you back in time.
A highlight of our visit was discovering that scenes from the movie The Help were filmed here. It's the spot where Skeeter and Stuart share a dinner date. They've done a fantastic job preserving the Mayflower's legacy while infusing it with renewed energy and commitment to quality.
If you're in Jackson and looking for a dining experience that combines delicious Southern fare with a deep sense of history, the Mayflower Café is a lovely place to visit. It is a bit on a pricier side, but the ambiance, quality of good and pleasant staff make...
Read moreDined in 10/3 Friday night at 7:35pm NOT A PLACE FOR MINORITIES!!!! Let me tell you about me and my boyfriend's experience dining here. We are coming from New Orleans and decided to stop and eat somewhere before heading to our hotel for the night. I looked up reccomendations to eat in Jackson and this establishment popped up as Top 50 according to The NY Times...we said why not, and headed there. It was obviously very busy on a Friday night so we opted to sit at the bar. We were greeted and offered waters and our bartender made our drinks after. The crab cakes were delicious, i will give them that. We ordered our entrees approximately at 8:25 and DID NOT receive them until 9:40pm. Over an hour after we ordered. Mind you, there were no other minorities eating here and we observed other (white) people who sat after us and got their meals...which is wrong. I'm not sure if it was an error on our bartender for forgetting to put it in or a blatant act of racism. Our bill came out to $180 and my boyfriend left a $25 tip despite everything. I don't recommend coming here if you are a person of...
