The food was really good, and the waitress was nice but the service really could have been better in a few important ways. I let the waitress know right away that I cannot have gluten and she showed me what I could have on the menu. However, at a certain point, my kids told me that “molten eggs“ are eggs that have been soft boiled, and then marinated. My gluten-free food had “molten” eggs and bamboo shoots. After I had already gotten my food, I asked the waitress if she could find out whether the eggs and bamboo shoots were marinated in something that contained gluten. She never came back, and I took a few bites of the egg and bamboo shoot and they were delicious, but I mostly avoided them in fear of spending a day or two with severe abdominal pain.
The waitress never got back to me on whether the eggs and bamboo shoots were safe for me to eat, but when we were almost done with our food, a manager came out and he was really falling all over himself to make sure we were happy. He did not mention the gluten issue, but then I brought it up and he passively admitted they had made a mistake. It was really a bizarre way to handle things. He said something about “let us know if you get sick and we’ll take care of you.“ I don’t know what that’s supposed to mean. What are you going to do about it? As we told him, we live 3 1/2 hours away from the restaurant. We were in Lansing doing things and drove a half hour out of town because this was the restaurant my son chose for his birthday dinner. Sidenote, I did not have a reaction so maybe these items don’t actually contain any gluten or maybe I just ate a small enough amount not to react. Either way the restaurant should do an education for the kitchen and wait staff on food allergies. If you are someone who would be hospitalized from exposure to gluten, I would not eat here.
Also, I had ordered hot tea immediately when we arrived, but someone had unplugged their hot water and then I think they forgot, I didn’t get the tea until at least a half hour later which meant I didn’t really have time to drink it because it came after our food was served.
Then, my brother mentioned that two of our party were having their birthday that day and they were given free dessert, except they both ordered different flavors of the crêpe cake - one asked for brown sugar and the other asked for strawberry - and they both got mango. They said it was good and they weren’t upset, especially since it was free. But still. Then once we had finished eating, most of our party of six went out to the car, but a few of us used the bathroom briefly. Before we could leave the building, they had the entire dining room torn apart for deep cleaning despite the fact that they were not closing for another 20 minutes. It was awkward. all the food was really good with the exception of a mixed drink that...
Read moreI totally didn't expect to find a legit Ramen joint in Jackson as I was driving by. I came to find out that it has been around for about a year now, an expansion from its original location in Canton. I usually go to AKA across the street when I drive by on 94, but decide to give them a shot this time. I always go for the Miso Ramen because I love the rich thick broth, and it is actually not as easy to make as most people might think. Miso paste is thick, if you don't put enough of it there is no taste, too much of it, it will turn into a sludge. So you will have to balance out the soup base. The joint knows how to make the perfect miso broth base, almost as good as my favorite joint Misoya in Chicagoland. The noodles were perfect, along with the ground meat, the veggies and the soft boiled egg. The chashu is a bit thin, but it was perfectly marinaded and grilled with perfect fat and lean ratio. The surprising part was, even the soft boiled egg was marinaded to the core with a light soy sauce blend. It was super tasty. I decided to take a take out order of Chicken Katsu Curry to go and see how good is their fried food and curry. The chicken was deep fried to perfection, but the curry was just OK for me, standard Japanese veggie curry, but the soft omelette on top of the rice was a big surprised to me. I have never seen it served this way in any of the joints that I visited in the US. That omelette is a big plus, because it goes so well with the curry. I didn't get the chance to try any Sushi and the Poke bowls but I will surely stop by here again to see how the rest of the...
Read moreService is always paramount for me. This visit was not particularly good. My friend is wheelchair bound, so let's begin there. Handicap parking is adequate. However, only two spaces were shared by two businesses. No Handicap doors making access less inviting, and two doors to navigate. Once these obstacles were overcome, there seemed to be no one working that day. We waited for a while several minutes to be sure. There were other guests, making it certain they were open. I am normally very patient. When this was worn thin. I moved a chair and got my friend comfortable and sat down. Waiting another several minutes, I got up and found a couple " to go menus." Before I returned to the table, we selected a young lady who appeared offering to get us real menus, wanting to take the menus I had found. Just as suddenly four more staff appeared, it began to look like an open restaurant. Once our server arrived, it was a better experience. I have to say, after such a long wait, any politeness seemed a bit disingenuous. We did end up having a good meal. Had I not visited before and had a wonderful time with my guests, based on this visit, I would not revisit. My friend is always wonderful and accepting of situations. Perhaps from dealing with such situations from his chair. From my view, it would appear the handicapped are not particularly welcome. Service is paramount it can make or break your visit, and...
