FIVE STARS! I've recently relocated to Jackson, MI, from the West Coast. One of my favorite restaurants there was IHOP. I was sooo happy to see an IHOP coming to Jackson! The pancakes... the syrups... the eggs... drool.
I waited quite a while after the grand opening just to get past the mad rush of people wanting to try the new restaurant out. This last Friday night I picked up my friend and we went on the spur of the moment. We'd read all the reviews online, and I'll tell you this up front: the one-star reviews and negative remarks on other low-starred reviews are WRONG. Completely wrong. My best guess is that the low-starred reviews are written by people that work for other establishments or have an ax to grind for whatever reason. It does NOT take an hour to get your food at any IHOP in the country. I travel a lot, so I know.
Anyhow... we got there just as dinnertime was starting, so the place was just beginning to fill. We were greeted by smiling staff, got seated right away in just the right spot (half table, half booth - what we wanted) and immediately our waitress came up. She introduced herself, was clear and easy to hear, friendly, smiling, took our drink orders, and when we requested a couple minutes to look over the menu, she let us have just that. It was PERFECT.
Our meals were delivered to us very quickly, exactly right, very hot, nothing amiss, and all this while the place continued to fill with customers as other diners left. They are very professional at this IHOP, and they are doing everything right.
The coffee was great - love the half size carafe on the table! - the plates were hot so there's no way food would be delivered cold. We had breakfast for dinner: scrambled eggs, fluffy and great tasting; toast just right; hash browns was this square kind of slab of hash browns but it was buttery, tasted great and it's LOTS of hash browns; bacon cooked just right (we like it on the crispy side); over-easy eggs were exactly that (and hot!!); and our pancakes - mmm mmmm mmmmmm! Perfect! I keep saying that, but it's true. We had the strawberry banana pancakes with one order and the blueberry pancakes with the other. They were VERY good!!
There was no mess or dirt or debris on the floors anywhere. The bathrooms were clean and fresh smelling. Everything was in stock. Counters clean, mirror clean, toilets clean, etc.
The wait staff is EXCELLENT. We did have more than one person as a team working our table, but we never had ANY problems. Love the teamwork!!
This IHOP has an updated atmosphere that is very pleasant. Comfortable seating, attractive lighting, not too cold or hot, and everything is tastefully done. It's not a cheap looking diner, not at all. It's a good place to sit and visit with a friend, have coffee and dessert, people/car watch, and enjoy good hot food.
What I liked most - we paid via our server at the table. I have long since tired of paying as we exit, and really like that IHOP is holding to the old tradition of paying the server. There was absolutely NO rush to give up our table as the restaurant got very busy and there were people waiting.

I ordered a breakfast combo with pancakes on the side. When another lady (not our server) brought out our food, I explained to her that the pancakes weren’t right kind and that my eggs were wrong as well. I order fried eggs and received a form of dippy. That lady was extremely rude to us. When she went back to tell the kitchen about my food, we could hear the cooks yelling about me and the eggs. We were sitting right next to the kitchen area, so heard everything they had said. Thankfully, the manager had just returned at that moment. She took the issue under control and came out to me herself to make sure they were cooked right. She also was super helpful and friendly during the whole process of it, as we were pretty upset. She even made the eggs herself as the kitchen sent out another form of eggs which were just white eggs.. The kitchen also sent out very burnt bacon that she herself even sent back to the kitchen to fix. Another waitress (not ours) was peeking out of the kitchen area (right by our table) and staring us down, shaking her head, and talking bad about us. The whole atmosphere was horrible. The only good part of it all was how helpful Stephanie (the manager) was. If it wasn’t for her, we would have left immediately. I put 3 stars for service ONLY because of how amazing and helpful Stephanie was. She deserves her position as manager 100%.

Read moreOur family was very excited for a yummy pancake breakfast this morning. We arrive and are seating right away, it takes a couple of minutes for our waitress to come greet us and take our drink orders. It takes at least ten minutes to get our drinks, she forgets half of them (ok, she has other tables). We place our order, it takes OVER AN HOUR for our food to come out. Not only do we wait over an HR for our food, it came out luke warm and all messed up! Our waitress isn't even the one to bring us our food. We did not see her after she brought our drinks. She does not come to check drink levels, she does not come to check on us. The next time we see her which is after we are done eating, she appolagizes for the mistake saying that she has been doing this a long time and has never made that mistake before. She tells us she will "take care of it" and bring out another round of drinks. Drinks never come, she brings our check, I look it over and it is rang up incorrectly. It takes her 15 minutes to bring our check back, she says she will take it when we are ready, she walks away and we don't see her again. We took our bill up to the hostess and asked to be checked out. While we were sitting there, another table in this same waitress's section had their order messed up. The table behind us had a different waitress, their food came quickly, but it was also messed up. Not sure where the confusion of placing orders is getting mixed up at but it definitely needs to be addressed and fixed. Also, staff needs to be more attentive to their tables. Very...
