Metro Diner — Restaurant in Jacksonville Beach

Been slacking some on my reviews, and had to make an effort to get this one in as they are very deserving!

My third time here and it's been on point everytime. Chicken and waffles are by far my favorite, but can only imagine the other items being equally as good! The waffle is soft and fluffy and the strawberry butter is a nice touch. The chicken, how can you cook chicken so much better than everyone else? Lol it's fried chicken but this is a little cruncher but not a heavy couch. And yet still juicy! A great combo for sure.

The shepherds pie is also amazing and I wish I could make this dish as good as they do. A very hearty and filling dish.

The wait staff are also enteric and have always been extremely pleasant and perfectly timed with everything. ( our food as amazing as it is comes out quick every time!)

Until this week, a friend and I were meeting there every Friday for breakfast. We would be at the front door when they opened and always sat at “our booth”. The last month or so the booth seat, and the corners and creases of them have been filthy with lots of old food crumbs and one morning even had old straw paper crumbled up into tiny balls amongst the food. Since we are the first people to sit there it means the old food has been sitting in the booth from at least the day before. The food and location is great for us so I tried to look past this for a few weeks but I finally had to ask my friend if we could start meeting somewhere else because it grossed me out. This morning we met at Another Broken Egg, and it was very clean but we missed the more traditional breakfast at Metro. Next Friday we’re trying the Brunsch House. The food was good BUT the restaurant was gross. It just wasn’t clean The floor wasn’t even swept before we were sat, the glass my drink came in was dirty. When I walked into the bathroom , the lady coming out was like “don’t even bother, it’s disgusting in there” and the lady in the stall next to her seconded that. My server was great but there was another female server who constantly kept stopping to talk to her boyfriend who was sitting in the waiting area while the restaurant was SLAMMED. I think he may work there too but have been off, who knows. But it was so unprofessional and rude to everyone around her who was running around like chickens. The hostess kept telling her what her table needed. The check in area was taking names on a piece of paper, was asking for phone numbers but never called or texted anyone about their tables? The whole thing was bizarre. This place needs new management bc it seemed hectic , unorganized and unclean . I...
