Tides Beach Bar and Grille — Restaurant in Jacksonville Beach

My husband and I are here from Atlanta visiting the Mayport RV, taking the weekend off. We were told of this place for great food. I work until 9pm, so we decided to get on down to check the place out.

First, the front desk receptionist never got off her butt to greet us, not even attending the front desk!

Second, the moment we stepped into the restaurant, as we passed the bar, no one said anything! We stopped by the bar to ask if we were in the right place. Bartender stated “yes, you found us” Before even sitting another lady behind the bar, “the kitchen is closed”. Bartender stated “no, they have 10 minutes” Great! I order a drink and we order food based on the recommendation of two ladies relaxing at the bar. Immediately our check was given to us. Two other patrons sat at the bar, while waiting for our food. There was also a lady and her dog there as well. Our food comes out…in to go containers! I start to unpack them. Bartender states “before you guys get settled I am about to close. You can sit anywhere else” as her hand motioned to close the gate above us! Mind you 15 minutes later after we finished our meal, bar was open and patrons were still relaxing at the bar! Also, do keep in mind all the other patrons at the bar were not treated this way, and were allowed to continue consuming their meal and drinks at the bar, even after arriving after us! As we left, the bar was still open!

Point is, this experience made us feel completely unwelcome! It was as if, yes we patronized the place, but was told to get out right after! My husband is military and has served this country for 32 years, and to be treated like “unwelcome” is very unsettling. The food was amazing, but we did not appreciate the way we were...

You have to appreciate what this Tiki Bar is in relationship to all the available beach side venues along Jax, Neptune and Atlantic Beach. It's one of the few that actually has a view of the ocean with a walkway and is nicely maintained.

They have tasty good quality food at a very reasonable price considering this is a vacation spot.

I've had the pizza, which was a recommendation by one of the staff because it's made there in their own pizza ovens. It was pretty good pizza for a hotel (i got a basic pepperoni and cheese) and a good value.

And I've had the Cajun shrimp tacos which were pretty excellent. Super tasty with a lot of spicy blackening seasoning, a mustard or horseradish? based sauce and perfectly cooked tender shrimp. Very reasonably priced with decent seasoned fries. It may be hard to choose something different next time.

The bar staff is helpful, courteous and fun, what you'd expect at a tiki bar. They take care of you.

But the view and access to the beach has got to be the real story to this place. Other than the Lemon Bar there really isn't another choice and Tides is much more kid friendly if your with your family.

I'm not counting the Jax Beach boardwalk bars as "beachside bars" (even though they can clearly make that claim) because you can't see over the dunes and they're not as well maintained, more like hardcore drinking and partying places...

Extremely disappointed. I’ve stayed here a couple times & never had an experience like the one I did today but this one definetly changed my perspective. My friends & I went to grab a couple drinks & some food & when the bill came we were unaware they didn’t accept Apple Pay. Our cards were over a 30 minute walk away on the beach with our other friends so we asked if they could manually input a card. We were told yes & proceeded to do so. An older white lady working by the bar inserted herself in the situation & made disrespectful & ignorant comments about me & my friends not having money & tried to completely embarrass me for a couple laughs at the bar. It wasn’t appreciated & completely disgusting. My friends & I walked back, got the cards, & paid for our meal with no problem & made sure we took care of our server because he was great & understanding about the situation. No one was trying to leave without paying & it was just a misunderstanding that could’ve went without the ignorant comments. Completely unnecessary & disgusting. Never been made to feel more...
