Went to Milano's for dinner and it was something of a hit or miss thing. I had cheese sticks for an app and chicken fettuccine alfredo for dinner while the wife had chicken soup for her app and pizza for her main.
First, the apps - the fried cheese sticks were good and very crunchy but nothing special. Though, kudos for serving nice warm, nearly hot marinara with it. Hate places that serve it cold. The soup was a bit of a disappointment in the flavor department. While it has plenty of nice, chunky ingredients, the broth it's in really lacks flavor. Adding a bit of salt and pepper helped, but it was still pretty light weight. On the other hand, it's enormous! You really could make a meal out of a single bowl of soup here. My suspicion is that they simply don't let the soup sit and simmer long enough for the flavors of the chicken and veggies to leach into the broth, which is a disappointment since it looks like it should be awesome.
The pizza (pepperoni, cheese, and ricotta) was good. The crust is close to, but not exactly, a pastry crust which gives it a good texture. I thought they went a little light on the cheese but the pepperoni was plentiful and tasty. Over all, a good, but not overwhelming pizza. The chicken fettuccine alfredo came with a house salad that was pretty uninteresting - lettuce, a little bit of mozzarella, and 2 small tomato slices (that I'd asked to be held, but oh, well), The ranch dressing was amazingly thick, though light on taste. Also along for the ride was some garlic bread that was, IMO, a little light on the garlic and butter but was pretty good as just bread. The fettuccine was a different matter entirely - a very large portion which huge chunks of chicken and a very flavorful alfredo sauce that hit the sweet spot between too dry and too wet.
The overall atmosphere is not bad - nothing special here. Service was mostly good though, as with many smaller places, the servers are expected to do much more than serve, so the wait staff can sometimes be gone for awhile on other duties, but when there, they're friendly and responsive.
Overall, not a bad place to stop for a bite. Don't expect anything special, but the friendly service and reasonable prices help make...
Read moreI recently had a TERRIBLE experience at Milano's.
I have lived in Jacksonville Beach for over 2 years and have gone there many times and ordered take-out from there many times. I used to think it was a solid establishment and enjoyed supporting their business.
Thursdays is $1 beer and $1 slices night and I have gone often. The beers are usually served in pint glasses, but last night they were served in plastic cups the size of child dixie cups. I asked the server what the deal was and she apologized profusely saying they aren't normally like that. I asked to speak with a manager to see what the deal was.
I overheard her telling the manager I was unsatisfied, but she returned to my table and told me the manager would not come to my table to speak with me. At this point I was VERY offended. I was a patron of this place for 2 years, and this is the treatment I get??
I asked the server to tell him again how unhappy I was, but he refused to come over. I asked her the name of the manager and she said his name is Al.
AL, I HOPE THE BAD REVIEW IS WORTH IT. TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS WITH RESPECT NEXT TIME, JERK.
I will now happily take my business to Brucci's which also offers $1 beers and $1 slices...
Read moreThis place was fantastic… the first night we went. My husband and I stayed at a hotel around the corner from this place so we got takeout from here 2 different times. Since it was so amazing the first night, we we got something else from here a couple nights later. I ordered the same exact thing. Unfortunately, my shrimp scampi linguine the second time tasted very unseasoned and was floating in bland noodle water. So we had to make a phone call and ask them to remake this…. Because I knew it could taste better!!! Only thing is, if I would’ve gotten that food the very first time I would’ve thought this place was terrible and would’ve never went back. I wouldn’t have even made the phone call because I would’ve figured it was a lost cause.. that considering we had such a great experience the first time around I hope they see this, and recommend keeping their standards up for every single day of the week. I understand, owning a business, especially a restaurant, is difficult sometimes. That you would’ve lost a very future loyal customer if I would have ate there and had that excellent experience that very first time. Regardless, I highly...
