Massively disappointed. What was one of my favorite little hidden gems is somewhere I will never return. I will say, the food is delicious, however I refuse to spend money in an establishment owned by someone who feels it's appropriate to publicly berate a customer out in the open in front of the entire restaurant. They were busy, it was lunch. While ordering our meals we ordered a slice of cheesecake to eat after in the restaurant. Three of us finished our meals and were sitting patiently, we let the server (who was great, and quite busy) that we'd take our desert when she was able. We waited another five minutes, she was refilling drinks and cleaning tables. She took another tables desert out and I assumed she forgot about us. I walked to the counter with our empty plates to politely inform the nice lady we ordered the desert from that we were ready for it when she was able. I didn't make a scene, I assumed I was helping by clearing the table and didn't mind getting it myself because being on break from work we didn't have an unlimited amount of time to just sit at the table. There was no scene, the only person who heard me ask was the employee of the restaurant, who let me know she had it cut and ready for us and brought it right out. Everything was fine, we were ready to enjoy the desert and go on our way satisfied from a great meal. That's when the apparently power hungry, rudely mannered owner who lacks customer service skills decided to come to our table and shout at me that I made a scene by coming to the counter to speak with his employee and ask for the desert. By bringing my plates up (which I thought was helpful) I was making his employees uncomfortable, and that they were short staffed and that I was out of line. This is front of the entire restaurant. After being berated I walked to the counter to ask for a togo box to take the desert and leave, but the owner couldn't leave it alone. He then had to make additional loud comments with patrons looking on, apparently to show me the customer who's boss in his establishment. Being someone who has worked many years in the service/restaurant industry I know how you should and shouldn't treat both staff and customers. This man apparently doesn't value the people who come into his restaurant to spend their money, and might not fully appreciate the transparency of the internet and a consumers ability to voice their opinions and share their experiences. I expect the majority of the reviews on here to be 4/5 stars because the food is delicious, but I saw another side of this place that didn't leave me feeling very...
Read moreA true hidden gem! This is one of my favorite lunch spots. Everything is always freshly made and so tasty. Order at the counter and be sure to add a dessert.. but get it quick because they sell out! Daily specials but today we ordered a hot Turkey Rachel on marble rye with a side of butternut squash soup and the barbecue meatloaf with a side of broccoli salad. Service is too notch.. drinks and food brought to your table. Tables are clean and they take care of anything you need. Personable and always with a smile. My favorite here is their ham (cut right off the bone fresh) and Brie sandwich. Also ordered coconut cake and pecan pie to go. Cake was moist and so very good, pie nougat was not as sweet as my hubby likes but still very good he said. Find this eatery inside Avonlea Antique Mall and do some shopping after your tummy is full!
Returned yet again and still love everything about this place. Just so special!

Read moreThis is by far one of the best hidden Gem dining experiences in all of the Jacksonville area. My wife and I visit here regularly! As you walk in the the antique shop you can smell the Aroma of the Eatery in the back. You can almost close your eyes and follow your nose to the location. Once you walk in, you will be delighted at their dessert display, and you will instantly realize you are in for a treat. We have had every menu item a few times over. And NOTHING disappoints. We love the hand carved turkey stack and the pasta salad. And when you can get the peach cobbler....
