University location ONLY! As much as I LOVE your food, the people who make it are VERY inconsistant as far as portions (the university blvd location ONLY). I go there all the time and have complained before about this as some of them might recognise my name and my order (Nachos). Sometimes there are a lot of Nachos and a little meat (which is an absoulte rip off) and other times they give me a ton of meat and a ton of cheese and normal amount of nachos (which makes you lose money). I always get the same response, "were sorry but we do weigh it and it should be the same every time". IT IS NOT. They offer to put more on if im shorted, but I always decline because all I'm asking for is consistancy (and I tell them that). How much is the meat amount supposed to weigh anyway, no cusotmer knows so why do i care about that answer unless they weigh it in front of me? Tonight I ordered something else, the small dinner with brisket and pork. I received 2 slice of brisket and about 2 or 3 ounces of pork which was about a small palm full (by estimate) FOR $17! I am unsure if this is a normal portion and the server was fantastic about it, but I got the same old answer, they do weigh it. If this is the normal portion for $17, I feel ripped off but in a whole new way. Not by an employees mistake but by Mojos. Currently my boss (who used to buy from Mojos on Beach) boycotted ordering your catering because she received in her words HORRIBLE customer service from those guys. That REALLY stinks because we cant get the catering anymore! I will continue to order food from here until I just break and boycott you myself because I feel you have some great employees like the host and the guy server who worked the closing shift today (8/25/15). Some of them do care but others are NOT doing their job. If that means sometimes I wont get a huge amount of meat in my Nachos, THATS FINE, I dont need them lol. I just need consistancy in portions and possibly even portion amounts stated in the menu (which can be great for marketing).Thanks...
Read moreLet me start by saying that the only reason I wanted to try this bbq joint was due to the reviews and pictures I saw from their other restaurant In the riverside area. Nevertheless, me and my wife were doing some shopping around the University area an decided to give this place a try. When we arrived we were unimpressed with the cleanliness of the establishment but overlooked it in hopes of receiving a good meal. Once we were seated we informed the waitress it was our first time visiting. We ordered the whole hawg which consist of chicken, pulled pork, brisket, turkey and sausage, four sides collard greens, mac& cheese, baked beans, fries, garlic toast , jalapeño and cheddar cornbread, two sweet teas all for 60 bucks. First, the food was brought out luke warm, there wasn't any heat coming from any dish which was very disappointing since we told the waitress it was our first time eating there. I figured she would have made it a priority to ensure our food was hot and fresh! Which didnt happen!! Secondly, the food was a bit dry and lacked smoke flavor. Lastly, after sitting in that restaurant for over an hour. We left still smelling like perfume and cologne....there was absolutely no smoke in the restaurant, no aroma, no nothing. For the prices they charge our food should always be hot and fresh and taste like professional smoked BBQ. I've had meals at Bonos for 20 bucks that run circles around this place. Hell I can smoke meat better than the food I paid 60 bucks for...smh. All in all, we may try this place again but certainly not this location. But I would advise anyone to try bonos on lane avenue first before spending your money on...
Read moreI love my BBQ. Im not one to claim to be a BBQ god, or that X has the best, or that dry rub is the best and wet is for losers. I do know a few things about it however. Cows should not be BBQ'ed, A nugget that Texas has yet to grasp hold of. Pigs should always be ordered when at a BBQ place. The sauce is almost as important as the way the meat is cooked. If it doesn't have a pink smoke ring then your not getting the real deal The 11th testament is thou shalt not use Catsup. (who knew?)
All those being said, MoJo's passes with flying colors on each point. I have only two places that I get BBQ in Jacksonville, Bono's and MoJo's. I love the sauce and sides at Bono's more, but the meat and atmosphere at MoJo's wins every time. You'll find Mojo's in two locations and I prefer the original to the newer Mojo's kitchen because its smaller and more personal. The portions are large here, and you can get a plate of BBQ that will feed you for three days. After a few trips to MoJo's you'll actually hear your arteries clogging and that's a good thing! I tend to grab the sweet and tangy sauce for my pork when I go, but a lot of the people reach for their classic sauce. Both are fine but don't grab for catsup unless your putting it on fries or you might find yourself roasting in the fire along side the pork. I give MoJo's a thumbs up because its great BBQ. They do what they do really well and you can tell the chef/owner really has a passion for blues and BBQ. I would choose Bono's over Mojo's for myself but it's a very close choice and one that depending on who's asking I might not repeat. Do yourself a favor and make sure to go to...
