This review is ramen-focused.
UPDATE: they continuously improve things! Very impressed. Need to go thru my review and edit a few things...
Original: At last, serviceable ramen without having to drive 1+ hr to Hangar Bay.
This review is in context of the location. If Hangar Bay was anywhere near the Southside/Mandarin area, this review wouldn't exist because I wouldn't bother. But since it doesn't, here we go!
Both Tonkatsu and Shoyu are solid offerings. All the usual trimmings, meat is quality and tasty, broth is enjoyable enough (not perfect nor amazing, but at least it hits the spot close enough). Egg is also good enough (hard-boiled to adequate softness instead of soft-boiled authentically). Only gripe is temperature: it came out just warm enough, any colder and I'd call it lukewarm; if it came out piping out we'd have a real winner on our hands. So while each part isn't perfect and has room for improvement to achieve authenticity, the sum of the parts leads to a satisfactory experience. And for an establishment within the city of Jacksonville (where the supply-side of the market for good ramen is positively dreadful), I'll take it!
Sushi was solid as well, on par or slightly better than most sushi restaurants in the area.
Attentive and friendly service, though perhaps they could do with one more waiter/waitress on busy nights.
Complimentary hot hand towels prior to the food (if you're unfamiliar with the concept - it is amazing and you'll have to experience it to know what I mean). Complimentary orange slices served for dessert. Very nice touch.
At the end of the day, since this is inland suburban Jax we're talking...
Read moreSo half the time I door dash and half the time I go in person because Sushi Garden is only 4 miles away from my house. Today I doordashed and I got a call from the restaurant that this was the last doordash order they would be doing for me as I complained about missing items 3 times. Over the past year i've doordashed from them 12 times- but have gone the same amount of times in person-- probably more times in person. I called doordash and they said a manager was not present at the store which means it was an employee who called me- she was EXTREMELY rude and said they were losing money off of me- but I don't know what I'm supposed to do if i'm missing items when I order through doordash- other than let doordash i'm missing something. I don't know if it's a dasher problem or a restaurant problem- but it's not my problem. I doordash almost daily and they only have records of when I order from them- not the hundreds of other doordashes that haven't had any problems. They also dont know when I show up in-store. I will not be coming back or ordering from them again because of the woman's attitude and saying I make them lose money- she has no idea how often I'm actually there, she doesn't know if i refer people or not. She knows nothing other than that 3 out of 12 times in the past year I've been missing an item from my order- and once again- i'm not sure how reporting a missing item...
Read moreCame here today for lunch. Ordered from the sushi combo. The American Dream and the Happy Dragon roll. It came with ginger salad and clear soup for 23.95. My partner ordered the katsu chicken hibachi with vegetables, white rice, ginger salad, clear soup, as well as the 3 in 1 roll. The restaurant was very clean and well maintained. The restroom was clean as well. There was a cute orchid in the upper portion of the wall. We had a booth at the front. There were also some tables parallel to the booths for larger parties. It's a small place but very quaint. Food was quick and service was great as well. The food was relatively cheap and the price is definitely worth the value. The restaurant is located in a plaza next to a Mexican restaurant. The only thing that would make this spot better, is if they had served liquor. I don't drink beer, wine, or sake. Otherwise it's definitely a place I would return to in the future for a quick meal and pleasant experience. We were able to park right in front of the restaurant as well. They had to go menus outside that you can look at ahead of time before going in if you want. I think I want to try the udon...
