Tsaocaa Mandarin — Restaurant in Jacksonville

My boyfriend and I come in any time we're on that side of town and usually have little or no issue! Today was a bit of an exception, though. I need a service dog for a few heart related reasons and bring my service dog (who's training) with me on days that I need her. My boyfriend and I had just gone to trader joe's and wanted to reward my SD for handling it well, so we figured we could give her the milk foam that came with my drink (since I can't have it anyway.) When ordering my Blueberry slush tea with milk foam, I asked if they could put the milk foam in another cup. The girl taking our order looked at us like we were crazy. Figuring it wasn't worth the trouble, I back tracked and just asked for no milk foam at all, since she didn't seem to understand. My boyfriend wanted to get my SD the treat, so he asked again if we could have the milk foam on my drink in a different cup. She frowned and asked in a condescending tone if we'd ever had milk foam. Yes, and it made me sick, so the milk foam was for the service dog, we told her. She then told us they 'could do it, I guess' but 'it was a weird request' and insinuated they wouldn't want to do it. We said nevermind and finished our order. The drinks were subpar anyway. I had maybe a half a scoop of the nata jelly I added, and my slush was full of large chunks of ice that couldn't fit through the straw. My boyfriend's drink was fine, but overly sweet. We've had a few problems with our drinks being wrong or just not good, so I won't be going back after it felt like the girl taking our order was belittling us and acting like we were stupid for a simple request. They listened and changed the lid cover to seal form. But the cup leaked from the bottom this time, yet they fixed it right the way. I tried the popcorn chicken, it was delicious. They were able to replace my drink in 5 mins and less and cleaned up the leaking mess quickly. I added one star for that. Yes, the drinks aren’t cheap, but cheaper than an international flight to Asia, plus the hotel stay, food and tour fee.

Came here during lunch time, very cozy and almost no dine-in customers. There is a self order station. Their menus are available for grab, very abundant with many choices. I picked Jasmin milk green tea with 30% sugar and less ice. The taste of milk tea is spot on and saving you a flight to Hong Kong. Their snack selection is pretty good. I picked takoyaki, but the style is more Hong Kong style rather than Japanese style. I would pass this item next time. I am eager to try the Taiwanese popcorn chicken. I save it for next time. The medium size drink cup cover won’t close on the cup, so it cracked. My drink leaked…a little. I love the decor at this place, bow tie chairs are super cute. I will add stars if the cup cover won’t crack next time. I personally think 30% sugar level is more than enough for my taste. I added tip to my order, even though it is mostly self-serve. I will not rate this establishment low this time, but next time I surely will if the tea doesn’t get situated. We ordered three different milk teas today, which tasted completely watered down (Brown Sugar Milk Tea, Jasmine Milk Green Tea, and Hong Kong Milk Tea with Brown Sugar Jelly). Please don’t give us tea water with some milk, if so we would have made our tea at home. I have been to the Tsaocaa at Beach Blvd many times right when they open a half hour before they close. I’ve met the owners. Please figure out if the trainer is not training the tea makers properly or if the tea makers are not making the drink accurately or if you’re just out of tea and filling it in with milk or water. Something isn’t right. As a barista, I, too, still make mistakes at my bar, but I also am grateful to have a team who communicates with me when I am not doing well on something.
