I've had food from this establishment a few times, the food is usually pretty decent - I haven't had any complaints, at least not until this past Friday. My most recent experience ordering food from Ably will be my last, allow me to break down my experience for you. My friend and I ordered online, the food was supposed to be ready at 6:30pm. We got there around 6:40pm and I immediately noticed a group of girls who were seemingly upset, appeared to be waiting for the rest of their food to be ready. I walked up to the counter, the young blonde girl barely looked up at me, but I told her we were picking up and gave the name for the order - this girl didn't even look at the bags of food behind her, she immediately just said "its not ready yet, we're backed up"...ok, no biggie - we sat down and waited patiently...we waited and waited. I was immediately turned off by the fact that both of the employees at the counter seemed to have very poor attitudes, they didn't apologize for the delay or try to reassure us that the food would come out soon, no offer to check on our order...nothing - just resting b*tch face on the blonde girl and no communication. Nevertheless, as we continued to wait, another guy came in and was told they didn't have his order, so he had to now place his order again, and wait along with the giant group of everyone else waiting for food. I decided to check on the status of our food, since it had been 40 minutes of waiting at this point. I very calmly asked if there was any update, the girl didn't answer me, I then asked if they had our order, I wanted to make sure since it had been almost an hour past the time it was supposed to be ready. The blonde girl then walked away to the back, I assumed she had gone to check on our food...the other girl at the desk asked for our name and the phone number on the order, so I gave that to her again, she said they have it and they're just still waiting for it to be ready, so I sat down again and continued to wait. Next thing I know, another woman comes to the front along with the blonde girl, she didn't say anything to me, she just spoke to the other girl at the front and asked what was happening, that the blonde girl told her I was yelling at her. Please allow me to reiterate, I was calm and my voice was low, I was not confrontational at all, I simply asked if they had our order in the system. Of course my friend and I were frustrated, but we didn't say or do anything to give any indication that we were "yelling" at this girl, but from that point forward, I was angry and very taken back. Instead of any sort of reassurance from the woman, who I assumed is a manager, she instead told the blonde girl "don't let them get to you," not a single word to us, or the 5 other groups of people who had been waiting for their food as well! Long story short, we ended up waiting for over an hour, then the blonde girl comes back up front with a bag of food, looks at us and calls a name - the name they had was wrong but we confirmed the phone number on the order (again) and the items for the order. The girl then says, jokingly, "your food was here the whole time, we didn't realize because of the name we had vs what you gave us".....I was speechless, the genuine lack of care and extreme unprofessionalism on their part was absolutely appalling. The girl then charges us over $40 for the food, I wanted to demand a refund or something due to the lack of care and horrible customer service, but my friend paid and we left. The food was ice cold and tasted terrible, it all went straight in the garbage.
All I can say is that this was one of the most unprofessional, horrendous experiences I have ever had at any restaurant. Whether the girls are too young, or just don't give a sh*t about the restaurant, food, and/or the customers - they need a serious lesson in customer service, or just need to be let go. If I owned this place, I'd be ashamed to have these girls working in my restaurant. I will not go back to Ably...

I have been eating at Ably for years, perhaps upwards of 10. I love to go fishing in the NC mountains, and I made a point of leaving the river in time to get a meal at Ably on the way home. Always a treat. Excellent food and friendly service, every time. I typically got the Panang Curry vegetables, or the pad Thai, maybe the kung pao chicken. Always served Thai hot. The fried crispy noodles were always hot, fresh, and super crispy. Wonderful dipped in the hot mustard.
Well, true to form, I left NC about noon planning on lunch at Ably. I stopped in and noticed a change in the regular staffing. Also, not the usual crowd at lunch. Wanting to change it up, I ordered general tso chicken, and an order of the Panang Curry vegetables to go. Both served Thai hot, or as hot as they could make it. I planned on eating the curry later for dinner. As I said, I really enjoyed the food here. I also asked for an order of crispy noodles. I asked the guy at the register if CK was around. "No." I asked if he still owned Ably. "No." When did he sell it? "2 months ago."Uh-oh. Well, maybe still the same attention to detail and quality. "No."
I planned on eating lunch in my truck with my dog and the air conditioning running. I received the order and imediately went out to my truck to enjoy lunch. I opened the first hinge tray. At first I thought I received the wrong order, honestly. The "general tso chicken" was a dank, spongy coated, mess of a dish, swimming in a flavorless sauce of unappealing consistency and color. There were probably 10 pieces of chicken literally floating in the sauce. Not crispy or carmelized, no vegetables, no broccoli. I tried one piece and the chicken was flavorless and tough, the batter spongy and saturated. I spit it out and tried another piece. Pure gristle. Well, I'll try the Panang. Opened the tray and knew right away it was going to be disappointing. A few potatoes, an onion or two, and a couple florets of broccoli. All so overcooked and tasteless. The "Thai hot" sauce was flavorless, bland and watery-thin. No coconut milk taste, no curry, no basil, no fresh veggies and lime to garnish. This dish used to be spectacular, even had Thai egg plant in it. Spicy, savory, thick and rich. No more.
Well, always rely on those crispy noodles. True, they had been crispy at some point, but not the point where I came into possession. Stale grease and limp. Used to be made to order. You had to wait a moment when they came out to cool. The egg rolls were horrible. I could not identify anything inside them. No crisp cabbage, no nothing that you could say, oh yeah, there's the pork. Perhaps frozen and microwaved, from the taste. Who knows. I just know I took one bite, and threw the entire mess away. Really, the whole thing. Had to work to stuff it in the slot of the trash can outside the restaurant.
Was tempted to go back in and try and get my $17 dollars back, but decided to just chalk it up to a learning experience and never go back. Maybe just a bad singular experience?"No." I know good food and quality ingredients. From the egg rolls,to the chicken,to the crispy nooodles, to the vegetables, to the sauces, this is poorly executed cooking with cheap ingredients. The fact they wefe satisfied putting this mess into a tray for me to eat shows they either don't know any better or don't care. Neither is OK with me and I'll go elsewhere from now on.
Anyone who eats here will be disappointed. Anyone who eats here that remembers what it was like when CK owned it, is going to be very, very,...
Read moreI’ve known the restaurant since it opened and was always happy with the whole experience.New owners took over and the whole experience took a dive, the food is still ok,certainly not as good as it was, but my biggest problem with the new owners is every time I order from them I feel cheated in regard to portions…take the soup for instance ,if you order a large order you get 25~30% less than any other Chinese restaurant that I frequent ,so the only way to get a normal portion is to order two single servings whereas under the prior owners Mrs Ling in particular,I always left happy with all aspects of either dine in or take out and again the food was delicious. The last time I went for takeout I ask for a small condiment of chili oil and was asked to pay for it which was the final straw for me!Were it not for my wife I would’ve been done with the shortly after my first experience with the new regime.Every time I’ve dealt with I feel cheated.I really miss the original Ableys!!Two stars because the food isn’t bad otherwise forget it.I’m not one to leave reviews, especially ones that aren’t stellar but in this case I made...
