I was refused tool rental based on my appearance.
I went to this Home Depot location on 18 July '20 to rent a 5' x 8' channel trailer, because I needed to move an appliance. I visually confirmed that they had the trailer in their parking lot before going in to the store, and parked next to it so that hooking it up would take less time.
At the tool rental counter, the employee took a long look at me before saying anything. (I have a significant number of visible piercings, even when I'm wearing a mask; it stands out in this white-trash town.) First, he told me that they didn't have a trailer to rent. Well, I'm parked right next to it. Then he said it didn't have a license plate. That's easy enough for me to check, let me go look. Finally, he asked what I was driving--a sedan--and said that it was store policy to not rent any trailer to someone not driving a truck.
I asked to speak to a manager. The tool rental manager claimed that it has always been store policy.
I've rented 5' x 8' channel trailers from the Jasper location multiple times previously, and every single time an employee has had to come out to unlock the trailer, and confirm that the brake light and turn signals work. If there was a store policy against renting a trailer to people not driving trucks, then every single tool rental employee I've worked with in the past has knowingly violated it.
I placed a call to corporate offices, and they confirmed that there was no policy requiring a truck in order to rent a channel trailer. I confirmed that my car and hitch was well within the specifications for that trailer. I spoke with tool rental at the Home Depot in Canton, GA, and they concurred; there's a policy on renting certain heavy equipment due to the weight, (that is, I'm not going to be capable of towing a skyjack, trencher, or Bobcat behind a compact sedan) but there is no requirement for renting a channel trailer.
If the GM of the Jasper Home Depot reads this, congratulate your rental manager; I've moved all of my business to non-Home Depot stores in Ellijay and Dawsonville. I've been doing home renovations during the pandemic, had been spending a fair amount of money doing so, and I'm no longer willing to spend money at a place where someone is going to piss on my shoes and tell me it's raining. The thousands I've been spending will no longer be going into...
Read moreAfter waiting for about 10 min for someone to come to the paint counter to help me. A guy finally came, but didn't ask who was 1st, he randomly picked someone that had just walked in. Since he had no idea what hustle is, another guy came through & asked if he needed help & he said no. So I grabbed the guy myself to help me. The 2nd guy started my paint and disappeared, literally! He never returned the whole time I was there! A woman came back from break, or wherever, and started helping another guy that had just walked up, again not asking who's next. During all of this an elderly lady came and asked if someone could help her get a bird feeder down and said she'd been all over the store trying to find someone to help her. The paint lady told the 2 employees that were (barely) working next to the paint dept that some lady needed help with the bird feeders 'or something' but she doesn't know where she went, like she didn't understand what 'I need help getting a bird feeder down' meant, she spoke very clearly & I heard her with no problem. Hello!! She went back to the bird feeders to wait for some help! They all looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders and never went to help that little old lady. When I was finally frustrated enough to say 'hey, I was here 1st & I just want my paint samples', paint lady got rude with me and said she wasn't going to argue with me. I chose not to be that guy, because it would've taken up even more of my day. Come on! Home Depot is better than this! I've never had a bad experience but today felt like I was in a different store. Who doesn't help little old ladies get bird feeders?? And retail 101, you should always...
Read moreOrdered a hot water heater a week ago, because mine started leaking. Because of this, I haven’t had any water for a week. To start off, their website didn’t show any available in store for what I needed. So begrudgingly, I ordered one with a maximum delivery date of 5/27. All was going fine, until this morning. First, I get a notification saying that it’s going to arrive early. Great! Then, I get a notification saying it’s delayed, so I call the 800 number. They get in touch with the delivery service provider, and guarantee me it will be here by 2:45. I’ve had a plumber hired to come out on this date, to install it. Lo and behold, 2:45 comes around, and no hot water heater. When my brother goes to pick it up, they say it might not be here until 8PM or a couple days from now. On top of that, they’ve got the hot water heater I need in store. Their grand solution? Me pay almost $600 again, that I don’t have, then whenever the other one arrives, run a refund. Which will take at least 48 hours to post back to my account. So now, I have no idea when it’s gonna be here, I have to reschedule the plumber and possibly wait another week or more until I have water again. Being someone who works for a competitor, and deals with things like this daily, I’m shocked at how poorly their “system” operates. 13 hours to get from Ellenwood to Jasper is a joke. I’ve spent thousands of dollars at this store, and severely wish I hadn’t. I will not be making this...
