Restaurant review! Where?: LincolnWood, IL Evita Argentinian steakhouse! ⭐ 4.5
They should really call it more of a tavern than a steakhouse. But then again I don't really know what the look for a steakhouse is 😁. The food there is quick and pretty darn good.
The chefs bang out quality food in the blink of an eye it's really impressive. Not to mention that it's freaking delicious and they manage to give a good presentation almost every time.
When you first walk in you'll find that most of the restaurant will have a fancy and glossy cherry wood feel to the place. Something that many specialty high end restaurants try to pull off but fail. Yet, this restaurant pulls it off real nice. It even has a classy small but comfortable seating area. Which gives, a more relaxed approach to fine dining, as if to say "please come in, make yourself comfortable while you wait." Instead of the usual feel that restaurants give saying "please leave we have no room for you to sit around here." You'll be pleased to see that the table are also dark cherry wood, are set neatly, and are ready to go ( beware, on a super rare occasion, some tables are not always cleaned properly, it only happened to me once which in my opinion should definitely NOT be sufficient to turn you away from such a good experience).
Its incredible how fast they dish out 😉 (if you catch my drift) considering they have such a small kitchen and only 4 people on the back. The word "miracle" would probably be an understatement to how professional these people are and how 4 people manage to cook up for an entire dining hall in such a record time. My hats off to the amazing kitchen staff.
Even after all these amazing qualities, there is so much potential that is yet untapped.
First, I have to say that the staff there is a little old in age. Biggest thing about restaurants is that you want to be waited on people who are smart, intuitive, experienced, (sophisticated) - not a requirement), energetic, and good looking personal. Yes you can call me dramatic and vain if you'd like but when your paying a certain price that 4-5 time more than normal for an experience it better look fresh, new, and have damn good service.
Here are some other suggestions: Like, having fresh cold flavored filtered/ seltzer water for guests that are waiting.
Being open for lunch with a different menu that is affordable for common people while having special uncommon (new) entrés for wealthier people.
And like most specialty restaurants, if there isn't enough income coming in. Making deliveries through modern day apps or delivery boys is a sure way to make extra money while making it easier for customer to gain access to your food.
Biggest issue is the noise. There is so many people in such a small space that you literally can't enjoy your company due to a huge family being absurdly loud or children constantly crying. Having something like a quiet room or creating a place for bigger parties with possible special menus could be a great improvement. This way you give your less crowded guests a quieter and more pleasant experience while making the big crowds feel special.
Lastly I feel that the churros are great but would be amazing if they were creme filled inside like chocolate/Boston.
There, that's my two sense about this restaurant. Please like this and share if you...
Read moreThe food was good, that's the only reason I gave it any stars. But service was terrible and we were deceived.
First, the waiter brought a plate of ribs and a plate of raw steaks and said that those items were that night's special and described the cut of the meat. I previously looked at the menu and the most expensive plate of ribs on their menu was $41. We ordered the ribs for my son's 17th bday. I mentioned to the waiter that my son was the only one eating meat. The waiter didnt pay attention to want I said and took away all the menus and did not come back for a while. We had to ask for menus back to order for the rest of the people (we were a party of 5). The waiter did not come back to the table to check on us even once. He was very busy with the other tables . We were two adults, a teenager and two 9 year old boys. We had to call for him to order more drinks, we had to call for him to order desert....He completely ignored our table. When we called for the bill, I was surprised to see that the plate of ribs was not $41, it was $130. I thought there might have been a mistake, so I asked. That same waiter told me that when he brought the plate to show the special, he said that it wasn't on the menu and since we didn't ask for the price, their policy is not to mention prices. I felt it was very deceptive. As a customer, I should have a choice whether to order a $130 plate of food or not. I didn't have s choice at Evita's, I was tricked onto paying $130 for a plate of ribs. My issue is not that those ribs cost $130. My issues is that I was tricked into buying it. The waiter speaks with a heavy accent, he talks fast, and you cannot understand half of what he is saying, let alone to pick up on nuances. None of us heard him say that this dish was not on the menu. And even if he did say it, the proper and straight forward way is to say that the price of this dish is not on the menu.
This is actually the second time when there was an issue with the bill with this same waiter. Last year, we were a party of 9 adults and 2 kids and had quite a large bill. My brother and I were splitting it. My brother happened to look at the bill and found an error of over $100 overcharge. We brought it up. The owner asked the waiter, who said oh...very sorry...my mistake and we were issued a refund of about $150. Tonight's ribs trick was strike number 2. I don't think we will be there for strike #3. The waiter sold us a plate we never would have ordered on our own given the price. However we paid the bill and 18% gratuity which was automatically added to the bill. In the long run, Evita restaurant lost good customers, who came several times a year with a large group and always ordered close to a $1,000 worth of food each time. When we come, it's always for fool meals, not just deserts.... This waiter is an embarrassment for the restaurant's seemingly nice and friendly owner. I hope the owner finds great waiters who can provide exceptional service and not use tricks to...
Read moreUnderwhelming experience. I'll start with the positive. I came here at around 10pm. They were the only kosher restaurant I knew of that was open to 12. They seated us pretty quickly and were very courteous. The decor is beautiful. They really try and give it that Argentinian vibe and walking in you feel it.
Now for the not so good. The whole time we were there, there were two people (I assume owners or management) up front that were talking and joking really loud as if they were in a bar. Not great for the ambiance. I didn't really mind but if I was taking my wife out to dinner it would have been annoying. In terms of the service, the place was almost empty at this hour. Even so, I had to flag them down every time I wanted something, even to make an order or get the check. I've never experienced that in a better restaurant.
Now to the food. If I've learned one thing from this experience it's that Argentinian food is sweet. Really sweet. My friend couldn't finish more than a few spoons of his soup and ended up eating his fries instead. I ordered flat bread and veal bacon. The flat bread was sweet but good but I couldn't get past a few spoons of the veal bacon. It was dry and just too sweet. It would have been nice if someone asked how we were enjoying our food so we could provide feedback and get suggestion on what would be to our liking. I didn't want to order different items and run the risk of them being the same.
If I came back I'd give the main courses a shot but I have a feeling they are all doused in sauce and would be too sweet for my taste buds.
All in all, not an awful experience but definitely underwhelming for such a highly rated steakhouse. After spending $90 and throwing away half my food I felt like I would have gotten better value at a grill or...
