Nottoli Foods is family owned and managed and has been around for decades. It has a parking lot which is very nice considering it can be a pain to find a legal parking spot on Harlem Ave. Their sandwiches are consistent. The bread is always fresh and deli meats are high quality. Their price-point is very good (affordable). They also serve up pasta salad, potato salad, soups (ask what they have on the day you go). The soup is homemade and very hearty which we always enjoy in the dead of winter. They offer different size sandwiches (from 6 - 12 inches).
You can call in advance and place your order by phone. No, you cannot order on-line so don't bother. Also, you must spend $10 (and above) in order to use your Debit card here. The reason for my 4-star rating is because you must spend $10 or more to use a Debit or Credit card. Also, you cannot order on-line.
They are friendly, humble, down to earth and their location is very close to the Harlem Ave. Kennedy Expressway exit (a bit south of Higgins). They are also located walking distance (a few blocks) to the CTA Blue Line (Harlem & Higgins). We usually buy sandwiches here, during the summer and take to the beach or Ravinia.
If we have a taste for an Italian sub we walk over to Nottoli from the Blue Line train station and take it to "go." We have ordered sandwiches to go so we can eat on an airplane. NOTE: This is a small Italian grocery store with Italian specialty foods, expensive extra virgin olive oil and sweet treats. I have purchased their most expensive olive oil and it is well worth every penny. There are no tables/chairs for sitting to enjoy your sandwich(es). I have tried the following sandwiches (over the years): Italian beef, roast beef, corned beef, meatball and Italian. All are pretty good sandwiches, but my favorite are the Italian and roast beef.
Although Nottoli Italian Foods is NOT Tony's Deli on Northwest Highway (Tony's is rated Chicago's No. 3 BEST Italian Deli according to FourSquare) their sandwiches are tasty, served up on quality fresh, fluffy Italian bread with a crispy exterior. Nottoli foods is family owned and has been around for decades. If you are ever in the area, hit up this little joint and enjoy an authentic Italian...
Read moreIf I could give negative stars I would. My husband and I drove out of our way because he heard good things about the subs. We arrived 12 mins prior to close. We walked in and we're not greeted but told to hurry up by the older woman at the cash register. We proceeded to the back by the deli counter where a younger short man told us "I am only making Italian subs". We were treated as if we did something wrong. After the subs were made, We went back to the cashier to check out and the old woman was looking at her watch. I said to her we still have 7 minutes until close. She said “We want to go.” She then followed us to the door to lock it behind us as we left. I have never been treated so poorly by an establishment in my life. My Husband and I left feeling as though we were an inconvenience to the staff. The Customer service at this place was horrendous. ALL of the employees were rude. We are hard working people (teacher and a police officer) who came in while we were trying to enjoy a day off. We were disrespected and treated poorly for no reason. My Husband and I will never be spending our money here ever again. We will also be telling fellow officers, teachers, Family, and friends about our experience to deter them from being treated as...
Read moreI've been wanting to check out this place for so long but always forget about it. They usually close at 4pm. Luckily, last Saturday I drove past craving a good sub for lunch, so I pulled in. I got a normal cold beef and provolone sub. I also noticed they had homemade dinners to take home and microwave in their fridge so a grabbed a container of ravioli. The sub was beyond delicious! Excellent tasting meat and a very flavorful provolone. Best sub I've had in a long time. For dinner, I decided to hear up the ravioli. I couldn't wait to eat it so I had an early dinner. Absolutely to die for. As far as the store, they have various Italian grocery items, packaged, fresh, and frozen.
I went back again yesterday and got their hot beef, a homemade piece of Tiramisu, and another dinner. This time I chose the Chicken Marsala which was amazing. The tiramisu didn't stand a chance once I dug into it.
You must check...
