Went to Pizza Matta for the first and last time Friday night, after discovering them in my neighborhood. When I walked In I saw that the pizza by the slice had been sitting for too long so I asked the waitress at the front, how long for fresh slices and she said ten minutes. I went to my car and came back in shortly after and ordered 2 slices of pepperoni and one southwest salad and waited for over 40 minutes, with no communication from anyone. While the girl who took my order was clearly avoiding coming to the front and properly communicating. So I waited another 5 minutes and politely asked for a refund, when I was asked why I told them for the wait and lack of communication. Here comes the girl who took my order with my order coming from the back. She then says, sorry the first pizza messed up in the oven, which seemed more like a lie and I believe the pizza that was supposed to be mine was sold to someone else as a whole pizza. I politely told the girl all she had to do was communicate. She apologized and said that they would comp my meal and that did not...
Read moreWe had high expectations since all the reviews we’d read had been very positive. We were not disappointed. The apple salad was indeed huge and delicious and the tavern style pizza was perfect. Super thin and crispy and the sausage was glorious, not greasy at all and full of fennel seed flavor. Josh(one of the owners)took our order and chatted with us. He was extremely welcoming and kind. Even brought us glasses for the bottle of wine we brought with us. We also tried the Superman ice cream, which I hadn’t heard of before, that too is made in house and was delicious. There are 3 booths that fit 4 for seating and also just enough room for ordering at the counter and for people waiting for takeout and delivery orders. We went on Friday and were able to grab a table when we arrived around 5:30. Within 30-45 minutes, the other tables were occupied as well. We dined in since we wanted to try the pizza super fresh and hot. Wonderful experience and We’re looking forward to going again. Don’t miss out on this...
Read moreI really wanted to like this more, but everything felt just ok. The beet salad ($20) was good, but for the price and no protein included, I can’t say it was anything special. The pizza was somewhat disappointing. I ordered a red sauce pie with sausage, red peppers, and red onion ($28). The crust was pretty well done which leads me to wonder what the well done option looks like. This led to some thoroughly burnt spots throughout that were bitter and unpleasant. The dough has great flavor though so if I were to order again I would have them cook is less. The sausage was a big turn off for me as it was crumbled instead of whole pieces. This left the texture grainy and wet with no real char on the sausage. Would definitely try again, but would steer clear of the sausage if you a fan of big chunks like is common at most Chicago...
