My Honest Review:

I was drawn to Sugar Moon after seeing all the rave reviews on Google and TikTok.

I arrived at 8:30am to find a small queue forming - I was third in line. I can’t fault the service or the atmosphere; both were excellent.

I picked up a variety of sweet and savoury items, including the carrot cake croissant, tahini cookie, pineapple bar, salted caramel blondie, chicken and sausage brioche, savoury roll, chai spice roll and a scone.

The Highlights: The chai spiced roll and tahini cookie were outstanding. I’d definitely recommend warming them in the microwave for about 20 seconds - they’re even better that way.

The Lowlights: Unfortunately, everything else. Most of the pastries lacked flavour and were surprisingly bland.

The salted caramel blondie and carrot cake croissant in particular tasted like
nothing. It felt like they relied heavily on salt to add interest, rather than focusing on quality flavours and ingredients.

Personally, I wouldn’t return - unless it was just for the two standout items. And I definitely don’t think it’s worth the long lines people face if they arrive after opening time.

I’ve tried quite a few other bakeries in Chicago, and sadly, my experience at Sugar Moon just didn’t live up...

Omg so seriously if you haven't heard of this hidden Chicago gem get out there and go !!! Sugar Moon was totally zen, chill vibes!!! I saw a reel on Instagram a few weeks ago and finally found the place. It's hidden in a neighborhood where the line is tailored out the door!!! Esthetically pleasing IMO... all the pastries and cookies looked delicious, I nearly got one of each!!! The tomato with whipped feta pastry was fabulous, it was still warm too !! as well as an egg, cheese, sausage stuffed brioche. Bon appetite. The Blondi was delish, so was the blueberry scone, smore cookies were fab! The giardiniera foccacia was probably one of the best I've ever had. Definitely planning to return much earlier to try the rest of the menu. Absolutely highly recommend 👌 give these people all of your money!!! Best hidden Gem 💎 in Chicago by far!! Try it out, promise you won't be disappointed the vegan aspect is such an added...

WOW! I was skeptical about waiting in line for this place but the regulars in line all said it was WORTH IT & I agree, it’s worth it, especially on a nice cool sunny day like today. There’s also a coffee shop down the block where you can grab a drink while you’re in line. We got there 15 min before opening & got inside 45 minutes later. Everything was excellent & the price was super reasonable for the quality, flavor & ingredients in the baked goods. I got: potato focaccia, chocolate chip tahini cookie (everyone’s fave), rapini brioche w runny egg, bacon brioche w hard boiled egg, spinach scone, & the chai spice roll. My favorite savory item was the bacon brioche & my favorite sweet items were the cookie & the spice roll! Prices ranged from $4-$8. Service was quick & friendly & I would definitely go back & wait in line to get more. One of the best, if not the best bakeries I’ve tried in...

Just got done eating and knew I needed to leave a review. I have pictures, but I'm not a foodie so they have bite marks, deal with it, I mean they say "my phone eats first" not in our case we ate first it was too good not to... Small shop, beautiful ambiance, the workers are kind, light hearted, but quick... I mean, they have to be, the line is down the block and MAN DID THEY FLY THROUGH IT! Now let's get to the taste, exceptional isn't even enough. Your taste buds explode on first bite. Going in there I was assuming it would be just sweets..... No way, they have it all, they serve every aspect of the tongue spectrum and awaken taste buds that only your grandma from a foreign land can bring. Honestly, this is one of the best bakery experiences I've had in my 28 years of life. We planned on saving some for later.... That didn't happen. Stop in and support local!!!!

Unfortunately a disappointment. Drove 20 mins, waited in line 20 minutes, outcome: mediocre, maybe below mediocre. Sweet goods: Tahini cookie and cornflake cookie were good. But again just average, not a life changing experience or definitely NOT best of Chicago. Savory goods: Cheddar scone, potato focaccia, mushroom focaccia, worst pieces of pastry I’ve had in a very long time. Overly greasy, salty, abundant/sharp and odd flavors. I am genuinely shocked that this place is named as best bakery in Chicago, not even close. If you’re an average person who doesn’t know anything about high quality pastry, it may seem as something great because of the variety of goods. BUT, if you know what a REAL GOOD PASTRY is, this place is NOT FOR YOU.
