I had never been here, and my friend convinced me. I want to say the food was decent. But the service for an online order that I just had to puck up was absolutely atrocious. There were 2 ladies at the counter. One lady who was "helping" me was the absolute worst. I never saw the woman's eyes once. She literally stayed on her phone the whole time. She rolled her eyes AFTER ask what she could do for me, and I said who I was picking up for. Stood there for a couple minutes playing on her phone, walked to the back, then came back without saying anything....just played on her phone. More people came in, and I eventually moved out of the way.
Eventually, the other lady who was literally doing 2 people's jobs came and asked what I was waiting on and went and got our food.
I dont know that any food is good enough for garbage human interactions.
Update: 12/30/23 My boyfriend had never gone to torchy's, and I figured he would enjoy it. We went in and put in our order and waited for the to go order. He ordered the Republican and the Democrat. I got a burrito bowl without sour cream or guacamole, add chorizo, and we both shared a drink. The front counter gentleman did a great job up selling because I said, "Oh. We probably need some chips and queso with that." He asked if we wanted to add chorizo to that, which I appreciated, I said,"Sure. Just chorizo. None of the other stuff please". He was so polite, and I appreciated that he took a second to see. "Hey, they might like chorizo, I bet they'd like it on other things as well." I am so stinking sick and didn't want to cook for us. The wait time wasn't terribly long, and I appreciate that. I noticed the guy forgot to give me a receipt, and I always get a receipt. I'm old school and it helps my money management. I asked my partner to go ask and see if they could print that receipt for me. They did, no issue. We get our to go order and start to take off down the road. I realize they didn't add any chorizo to my burrito bowl that I paid for, which made me sad. My boyfriend very thoughtfully turned around and just had them add it. Said they were incredibly understanding and kind. I'm glad we had that receipt. Once we get home and start into the queso, we notice there's guacamole (a very generous green helping) in the queso. I guess that's the only thing that they ended up ringing up wrong, which I can see being a misunderstanding. But I'm just out the money for that. We tossed it. It wasn't worth driving over an hour and a half back. All in all, the boyfriend said the Democrat was disgusting and had a weird smell. Which made me chuckle. (I do love the way they market their names. I think they're all so punny and clever.) He said the republican was shocking. It has like smoked sausage links in it. He was expecting like ground sausage, but he said it was shocking but still really good. He would definitely order it again. My burrito bowl was just fine once they added the chorizo I paid for. Next time when I feel better and am down that way, I'll be sure to ask for fajita veggies to add to it. Sick me just wasn't that hungry.
It's upsetting that I think I've been here three times now and the food is good, but something always seems to go wrong. I seem to forget about that and then get a craving for the food. All in all. It's still better than the first time I came in, just inconvenient for the things that go wrong. The extra gas it takes to go back and fix it. When you don't feel good and don't want to cook, you definitely don't want things to have to be taken care of after you order. Nobody likes feeling like a Karen, but at the same time, there's things we won't eat and things we pay extra for. I don't think I should feel bad to ask that it be made that way. To be clear, staff was SO INCREDIBLY POLITE. But hopefully you know...
Read moreExperienced Torchy's Tacos for the first time yesterday at their grand opening and I was not disappointed!
The line was out the door, but since it was just my husband and myself, we were able to bypass and sit at the indoor bar. I like that the bar stools have a back on them, to allow support for those who may have back issues and would otherwise find it difficult to sit at a high top.
We sat towards the middle of the bar, as the area in front of the first couple seats were dirty and smeared. I did see staff wiping areas and tables each time patrons left after that, so I will chalk that up as a one-off situation.
My husband and I split the Hillbilly Queso, which was AMAZING. My husband doesn't usually eat spicy, but he loved it. Although it does have a kick, it was just the right amount. I ordered a frozen Peach margarita, the Baja Shrimp taco, Brushfire Taco, and a side of Mexican rice. The margarita was nothing super special and I felt was priced too high for what it was. I probably would not order again. The food, however, was wonderful! Flavorful, fresh, and filling. I wound up taking one of my tacos and half the rice home with me (side note: also reheats well). I like how their food menu is focused with specialty items. Quality was excellent.
Service was good, especially for how busy they were. My one thing I was peeved about was our initial server did not inform us there were two different sizes and prices for the margaritas- she just automatically brought my husband the larger, more expensive size without asking, knowing it was our first time there. Steve (the owner) and Deena (front of house manager) made rounds and continued to check on everyone. We never felt rushed. Would love to come back and check it out when they get a little more settled in and have their full alcohol menu available.
Overall, a definite win. Can be a bit pricey, so unfortunately will not be a weekly outing; but this will definitely be a restaurant we frequent....
Read moreI won’t deny that the food is good here but the management is made of teens that do it very poorly. I went to order $35 of tacos and $30 of margaritas. However, I was told at the front desk that I had to order alcoholic drinks at the bar behind the front desk in the restaurant. So I travel to the bar and am set to order 3 margs just to be told they are too busy to take the order and I should order at the front. This upset me and required me to find the manager with receipt in hand explaining the miscommunication just to be told again that I should wait in a 15 person line to order my drinks that I originally tried to order at the front. This experience told me my money was not worth 2 mins to put the order in and that is why I most likely won’t show back up at this place regardless of the food experience. I was lucky that my food order was not miscommunicated and that I didn’t have to chance it on my alcoholic drink order.
Update: The same manger goes up to another couple (in my same situation) 20 mins later when I’m waiting on food to make an exception about how they didn’t order their drinks but she can take the order. I’m sorry but this is not an acceptable practice and needs to be handled appropriately. The manager tonight was 5’2” with dirty blonde hair wearing it in a messy bun.
Update update: Matt Honeycutt (a market partner) was able to redeem all my complaints and explained the whole situation about how staffing was low tonight and the regional manager was actually working at the back bar. Matt was able to give us the food and drink order free. So I will state after this long haul that Matt is keeping this place up and running. I wish the best to Matt and hope that he can workout all the kinks of starting a...
