Despite being a born and raised Jersey City resident, I must admit I’ve only frequented Healy’s Tavern a handful of times. Admittedly, the Healy’s burger was something on my local bucket list. On a hot humid summer afternoon, I decided to move forward and check this item off my list.
Upon entering, I was greeted with a friendly smile and warm welcome by the bartender whom then patiently assisted me with my drink options.
“Something good for a Summer day”, I requested.
“How about a Surfside Iced Tea”, she suggested.
“Sure!”, I replied
Luckily for me, should could not have been more spot on with this recommendation. I thought to myself, “what a lovely way to start!”
Although my heart was set on the burger, I still decided to glance over the menu while I waited for a friend to arrive. There were definitely notable options that I will definitely try soon! However, on this visit , I stuck to my guns and was set on the burger.
Once my friend arrived, I placed my burger order. Within 10 minutes my order was ready and I was ready to dine!
The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. I have to say, I was more than impressed. All around, I have to say this might be the best burger in town!
I look forward to trying many more menu items at Healy’s. I have my eyes set on the buffalo wings and chicken Caesar wrap and look forward to updating everyone with...
Read moreDiscrimination Complaint Regarding Bartender at Healy's Tavern
I have been a loyal patron of Healy's Tavern for many years, but my recent experience left me deeply disappointed and upset. Today, while visiting the bar with a friend, we were treated unfairly by one of your bartenders, which I believe was discriminatory.
The bartender approached us and stated that we had to leave because, according to her, expressing religious, political, or personal beliefs was not allowed in the bar. She singled me out for wearing my cross necklace and a T-shirt, which she claimed was offensive. As a practicing Catholic, I wear my cross as a symbol of faith, and I do not believe it is right for someone to be discriminated against for doing so.
I respectfully pointed out that there were other symbols, such as pride flags, displayed in the bar. However, the bartender insisted that we leave and said we were no longer welcome. This treatment shocked and disappointed me after many years of supporting Healy's Tavern.
I believe that this was a clear case of discrimination, and I am extremely concerned by the behavior of your staff. I kindly request that this matter be addressed immediately, as no customer should face such treatment.
Thank you for your attention to...
Read moreHad fun but got overcharged on some food. Ordered a large portion of two dishes but received the small sizes. Didn't make a big deal about it but then was charged a second smaller transaction later that evening after I already left. Had to cancel my credit card. Not sure if it got skimmed.
EDIT: Thank you for the response. It seems to be a misunderstanding. I wasn't aware that I started a tab because I just ordered food so I left without closing it. Don't worry about the price change. As I said before it wasn't a big deal, I just considered it as an extra tip. I normally wouldn't have left a review at all but the later charge made me feel uneasy before you explained. I feel like it would be too complicated to refund a portion to a cancelled card so we're all good here. Still had a lot of fun and good food. Adjusted the...
