NEW no-tipping neighborhood cafe serving strawberry shortcake latte and delicious chocolate chip cookies in Journal Square.
I really canât stand tipping culture. Iâd much rather see restaurants pay their workers a fair wage instead of shifting that responsibility onto customers.
Thatâs why it warmed my heart to see Incontro Caffe stated that they pay their staff fairly right on their signage. They even removed the tipping screen from checkout. All menu prices are tax-included, and NO EXTRA CHARGE for alternative milk. More of this, please!!
Itâs not just a socially responsible community cafĂ©. The drinks are actually delicious, and the vibes are chill and cozy. Friendly baristas, comfy seating, plenty of space, and a clean, gender-neutral bathroom. So lovely to have them in my neighborhood.
ïŒStrawberry Shortcake Latte $7 * I really enjoyed the strawberry shortcake latte, which came with strawberry purĂ©e, coffee, and a generous plop of whipped cream topped with dried strawberries. The sweetness level was just right.
ïŒMatcha Strawberry Latte $7 The matcha, on the other hand, leaned more bitter even with the strawberry purĂ©e, and I personally think it couldâve used a little less milk or more matcha powder.

Read moreIncontro is one of the best cafes in the state! I love how they make almost everything fresh from the syrups, cream, and gelato. They have Italian frozen espressos that you wonât find anywhere. I really recommend the Strawberry Matcha freddo and Crema di caffe. The dollop of fresh cream they put on these freddos is what makes it really stand out from other cafes. The cream is so fluffy, light, and flavorful. They also support other local businesses like Modcup and Choc-o-pain by selling their coffee and pastries. By eliminating tipping they are able to pay their workers a full wage and eliminate tipping. One of the best things about them is that they are open until night, so you can stop in and do some work on your laptop if...
Read moreA wonderful, refreshing addition to the area - wish I lived closer. Extremely transparent pricing (e.g., they actually pay their employees so it's tip-free), which is increasingly rare these days with so many places adding sneaky upcharges (e.g., Taqueria's arbitrary "restaurant fee", credit card processing fees, etc.). As someone with a dairy sensitivity, it's nice to see a place include all milk types in its beverage prices. Everything, including the pastries, tastes fresh and of good quality. Great tea...
