The place is really well decorated, and the plates are well portioned, although overtly pricey. One might think they dined at a high-end restaurant after eating here, but that is not the case. It’s no mystery why there’s no repeat business. I, myself, am a glutton for punishment and have a short memory, so I repeated my visit.
I’ve visited this location multiple times after exiting the PATH on my way home because I love Mexican meals. However, this place barely qualifies as a Mexican restaurant. They lack diversity in sauces, which is extremely disappointing. The menu divides what “real Mexican” food is for tourists vs. born-and-bred Mexicans, which I found to be awesome. But as I mentioned, they had barely any hot sauce, which no true Mexican would find acceptable.
Once you’re inside, the restaurant usually looks like it has more employees than customers, and the service is atrocious. It’s unclear if it’s a lack of training or just fresh hires, but it’s really bad. Whether you sit at the bar or at a table, the staff often go on tangents, talking among themselves before remembering to attend to you. Basic things like providing a napkin with a drink are overlooked. If you do have the attention of your waiter, ask for everything up front because you will not see them for a while, especially when the place is barren.
The prices are higher than what you would find in nicer parts of Brooklyn. In Jersey City, it’s slim pickings in this area, and they price gouge you for this. I recommend that people get back on the PATH, go to Grove, and eat Mexican food like kings and queens. The service there cannot be worse than a place that is mostly empty, where employees only attend to you because they happen to be doing a random task in that area, much like in Walmart.
I’m not sure if the owners care or if they are just looking to burn money. If I were the owner, I would train the staff properly, lower the prices to what’s normal in the immediate market, and lower the lights when it’s dark outside to set more of a mood. They would definitely fill up the place if they cared somewhat for it. There’s a lot of potential, but it’s poorly run at this point in time. So you’ve...
Read moreThere are so many places to eat and your time is precious. Drive by this place and you will see it's empty -- there is a reason: customer service is offensively horrendous. I was driving in the car while my wife ordered on the phone. She ordered everything vegetarian, including my enchiladas. When we got home and opened them up they were carne asada. We called to say there was a mistake expecting an apology and an offer to redo them as is the standard -- which would still be a burden enough considering we would have to go back and it was getting later. But alas NO! It was we who were wrong! When my wife said "enchilada vegetariana" he claims he responded with "carne asada". My wife says a) she never heard that, that b) she said vegetariana so why would he say carne asada and c) if everything else we ordered was veg wouldn't you put 2 + 2 together? His answer to all of this was that SHE was wrong that she never said vegetarian (I was next to her and heard her say it many times with everything she ordered) and that she agreed to the carne asada so...we were sh*t out of luck! Ha. Listen, you might not get the same experience we did if all of the stars are aligned and they happened to get your order perfect. But if they don't, prepare for a complete disaster of customer service breakdown and...is your time not more precious than to risk it? There are plenty of great Mexican restaurants in town that...
Read moreI like what they did to the place, it looks great. The food has remained the same depending on what you order will determine your experience. My husband always gets the pulled pork and idk if they changed something in their meat selection but it was 85% fat like he pulled all the fat and grease out the sandwich and was left with a very tiny amount of actual pork, it ruined his meal/appetite. He ate his flat little sandwich because he was craving it so bad but definitely our last time coming here. And I say that solely because we used to come here a lot and he loves the drinks here but the customer service was awful, the hostess girl was also our waitress along with another gentleman that was being trained. They both need some customer service training because she had a terrible attitude and didn’t care about a thing we said. If someone approaches you with a concern about the food you can’t say “Ok?” Like what?? lol it was enough to put us off to decide to go elsewhere on date night. The food and service took foreverrrrr and there was only one other table and a few people at the bar who already finished eating. And reading the reviews it seems like I’m not the only one that thinks she has to go. Hire friendlier staff people who know how to take care of people including concerns. And you guys will be...
