My girlfriend and I recently came to Satis for dinner for Hudson Restaurant Week. The atmosphere here is just fantastic. Satis has a nice spot on the corner in Paulus Hook with both indoor and outdoor seating. The indoors is quite small, but very nicely put together. We chose to sit outside as the weather was just too nice to pass up.
We started off with appetizers - I ordered the patatas bravas and my girlfriend ordered the scotch egg. Both were very flavorful. I would almost say the patatas bravas were a bit over-seasoned, but they were still very good. I had never had a scotch egg before, so I don't have any comparison, but I also really enjoyed it and would definitely order a scotch egg again.
Moving onto the main course, I got the trofie a la genovese pasta dish, which was trofie pasta with arugula-basil pesto, corn, charred bell pepper, and green beans with toasted pine nuts and goat milk cheese. It was a very unique dish and full of different flavors. I don't recall having a similar dish in the past, and I really enjoyed it. My girlfriend got the cast iron roasted half chicken in bourbon pan gravy and polenta with broccoli, pecan, bacon, and smoked blue cheese dressing and said it was fantastic.
Lastly, for dessert I ordered the sweet corn panna cotta, blueberry and cornmeal shortbread and my girlfriend ordered the banana chocolate cream pie. The panna cotta comes highly recommended by me. This panna cotta was absolutely perfect - a great balance between sweet and savory. My girlfriend also enjoyed her dessert.
Satis can be quite expensive if you aren't catching a deal like Restaurant Week, but in my opinion it's worth it to give it a try. You can find quite a few dishes that aren't too common at other restaurants, and judging by the meal I had they know how to make them right. A solid four stars from me - I definitely recommend it and I will most likely return for a special occasion or other event that warrants spending a little more for...
Read moreLet me first start by saying that I'm originally from New Jersey but currently live in Brooklyn. Also, some may refer to me as a "Picky B". As a self- proclaimed New Yorker (it's been 15 years and counting), my husband and I rarely venture in to New Jersey to dine (especially via the Path). However, Satis is so fantastic (and actually easy to get to!) that I've cast my judgement of the commute aside for the goal of a superb dining experience. The atmosphere both inside and out is welcoming and authentic to the space and neighborhood. High ceilings, exposed brick and cozy pillows are the perfect combo for a non-fussy environment that doesn't compete with the star: the food. I absolutely love the selection of meats and cheeses and the presentation is perfect for sharing with a group. Dinner and brunch are both delish as I've had the grouper at dinner and Bocadilla de Tortilla at brunch.
Because I had such a wonderful impression of dining at Satis, I recently decided to have my Bridal Shower there. It was the perfect place for Ladies Who Brunch and easy for my New Jersey relatives and Brooklyn gals to get to. We took over the upstairs area- which has fantastic wallpaper by the way- and simply added flowers to each table. The result was beautiful. And THE STAFF! The staff was attentive and so friendly! And of course, the food was as great as I remembered and the wine flowed freely. Both myself and my guests were thrilled with the experience and I would highly recommend Satis for everything from brunch to...
Read moreOverall, food was okay, but because of their unprofessionalism, I will never return. First of all, I’m Asian and I have dark brown hair. We ordered a bolognese pasta, and a strand of blonde hair came out. Definitely not my hair. I actually never faced a situation like this before, so didn’t even know what to do at first. I hesitated but decided to let them know and ask for the same order to be newly cooked. However, the same pasta dish came out within less than 10 minutes, and it was overcooked- which was very weird and suspicious - as if they just warmed up the dish I just returned to them. Also, after the new dish came out, manager did not even take a single visit to our table asking if everything was okay and most importantly, if we were okay at all.. Bill for the two of us came out to appx $170- and we gave 20% tip. I didn’t ask for any complimentary dish for the inconvenience- so wasn’t surprised we were billed for all the dishes 100%- But even we were leaving, again, no single good bye from anyone except the lady at the front, whispering good bye - while manager was just standing there doing nothing. Honestly, I was okay with the hair and all, but I am very disappointed of their unprofessional way of treating us and we will never be...
