I found out about the place through food delivery mobile application. The delivered goods tasted delicious so I thought to give it a try in person this time. Upon entry there's a host counter with two dining rooms situated either side. Room to the right has a cafe/cozy feel to it ( no one was in it at the time ), room to the left have more intimate dinning setting. The left room where we dine is decorated with picture frames on light green painted walls giving it a very calm relax atmosphere. We were greeted by a young polite gentleman and was served Bread (in house warm delicious) and water by a lady. The place does not have a wine list (My guess: Liquor permit) but you are welcome to BYOB/W/L. I don't know if there's a corkage charge. The Menu has quite an option to choose from. For starters , the lady and I shared the appetizer Sigara Borek ( crispy filo cigars filled with feta and parsley). For entree, I ordered Tandir (succulent chunks of roasted lamb) comes with pot of rice, and red cabbage salad from the Meats section. The meat itself was cooked and tender right. The bread that was served upon seating complemented my meal all along. My lady ordered Hunkar Begendi with lamb (A classic ottoman eggplant dish). Both our portions were just the right size and lastly for desert, we shared Kenafe. The food was filling , the in house bread was delicious, and the service was great as well. However, the food didn't hit the spot taste wise for me which is my bias that's preventing me to give 5 Star. Maybe I should stick to basic kebabs before exploring authentic dishes. I'd definitely come back again and try some Kebobs in the near future. Lovely place to bring a date for dinner or do homework in the cafe section. Overall a nice cozy atmosphere and I'd recommend to any foodie out their to check it out if you're into healthy...
Read moreWe are staying in Jersey City and checked Google Maps about surrounding restaurants for dinner. Rumi's caught our eye because we love Turkish cuisine. We walked the half mile and sat down in a nice and cozy restaurant. Bring your flashlight if you are of age like us, it's a little dark in there.🙃 We started with an order of Sigara Borek. The rolls were fresh, piping hot and very tasty. I had the Lamb Gyro as my meal and my wife had the Chicken Iskender. The lamb gyro came with a side of bulgur, rice, two pieces of cold broccoli, a grilled spicy pepper and half a grilled tomato. I love grilled tomatoes and this one tasted very good. The rice and the bulgur were very tasty and completed the gyro perfectly. The pepper was too spicy for me and the cold broccoli was completely out of place. I would've rather had red and white cabbage salad instead of the broccoli. One tip if you are ordering this meal, definitely get a side of the yogurt sauce, otherwise the dish is too dry. With the sauce added, it was excellent. The chicken iskender was delicious and perfect just the way it came out. Flavorful and fresh, tasted just like in Turkey. Fresh bread was served with the meals. Dessert was an order of Kunefe, enough for two people, and it was SO delicious. The combination of sweet, crunchy, cheesy melt in your mouth goodness is just amazing. Overall we loved Rumi's and would...
Read moreAfter going here two times, my overall rating would b a 4.5. Each time I went there I had some problem with service but other than that food is great!!!. Both times I went it was a Sunday (Mother's Day). First time it was busy second year it wasn't. Problem I had with service was that the waiter didn't ask for any drink when we first sat down. Once we started eating he didn't had side items (ketchup, sauces etc.). Also, he didn't check on us if we needed anything else. Besides this, it was a wonderful time dining here. Environment is nice and clean. Food (the main thing) of course is great and delicious. Iskender kebab, kebab combination platter and Eggplant with tomato sauce is great. Prices are reasonable. They add a suggested tip in the bill. I would recommend anyone to go here for Turkish food.
Update; 2021 (Mothers Day)
Had same issues on this year’s mother day. Service was legging so much. Waiter was busy and could not keep up with us. There is one bathroom for both genders and it was really dirty. Had to go to my parked car just to wash hands because someone inside the bathroom wouldn't come out. The food prices have changed drastically. A combination platter that used to cost around $33 2 years ago now costs $42 with same quantity and portion. Thats $9 increase and definitely not worth it. I dont think i will go back...
