Horrible experience at this place, especially with the owners. I went here the other night with a family member to order a pizza and some cheese sticks. The pizza and the cheese sticks came out burnt around the sides and doughy in the middle. We sent the pizza back. It still came back doughy in the middle. The second time the pizza was brought out, the server accidently spilt tea all over me as she was sitting the pizza on the table. It went all over my brand new pair of jeans and it also went on my boots. She apologized. She is human just like you and me. Humans make mistakes. I spoke to one of the owners as I left about the bad quality of the food and mentioned my jeans and he said he would either pay for them to be dry cleaned or he would buy me some new jeans. I told him I would first try and wash them myself and spray some Shout on them to see if the stain would come out. I washed the jeans, the stain did not come out. The following day I go back into the restaurant. I speak with one of the employees and he tells me that he spoke with the female owner and she said that she would absolutely not pay for me any new jeans. The jeans were only around $30 on sale. She was way out of line. I told him I would just come back the following day and speak with the guy that I spoke with the first time. I go back the next day and asked to speak with Peter the other owner. I go back at the time I was told he would be there. While I was waiting the host up front made some snide remarks like "were those expensive jeans or something" "we close in 10 minutes". Peter finally came out. He had changed his tone completely from just a couple of days before. He was being real rude with me and trying to belittle me like I was some kind of criminal. He made remarks like "Is that the only pair of jeans you have" "I can't just take out money and give it to you" after he was the one who volunteered to buy me some new jeans in the first place. I am not some person who wants thing for free. I work for my money and am not some freeloader. I actually work retail. If I make a mistake, I do whatever it takes to make the situation right and still try and make sure the customer is satisfied. Apparently that is not the case here or at many other places this day and age. He eventually agreed to pay me for the jeans. As I mentioned before the jeans were around $30 and he wanted to pay me $20. I met him in the middle and agreed for him to pay me $25. My leather boots were also stained all over from the tea but he didn't even bother to pay for them to be cleaned. He even had me write down that he had paid me $25 and sign my name, again treating me like some kind of criminal. He also said after he finally handed me the money that "it's Christmas time and he wanted to do something nice" Um, hello! Your employee spilled a drink on my clothes and you should pay for anyone some new clothes regardless of the time of year if this kind of thing happens! He also said to promise him I was going to buy jeans with the money, again talking down to me. I told him that I was going to buy jeans with the money and that I am not somebody who wants things for free. I should've just told him where to stick his money. I feel sorry for the people that have to work for this guy. As I told him when he was talking down to me, word travels fast around here. Hope he likes this review and many of the other bad review's his restaurants have gotten. Maybe he will learn that talking down to your customers is not...
Read moreWe have been dining at Mad Greek for about 15 years. When it was only in Bristol, we would drive approx 60 miles, one way, just to dine there so needless to say we were trilled to see Mad Greek come to Johnson City. We live close to Greeneville, TN. It was ALWAYS well worth the drive. Everything was great, always, even at their new location in Johnson City. However, the beef souvaklis have made a constant, gradual decline in it's original quality. It used to contain chunks of meat then they took the lettuce off completely and replaced it with cucumber long -length slices and instead of chunks of beef now they have shaved thin slices or so it appeared. We did not enjoy that as much. In the last few months they've went from the latter to dicing the cucumber which is alot better than the long slices. However, we still personally prefer the lettuce instead. But they've recently also went from the thin slices of beef to somewhat ground meat now. The souvaklis are no where near as enjoyable to eat as they used to be like this. I wish they would return to the original way of preparing them. After all, that's what made them a favorite for so many. We work for the U.S. Postal Service and have introduced Mad Greek to all of our many, many coworkers several years ago. We got on the subject of dining out the other day at work and one person said they didn't enjoy eating souvaklis at Mad Greek anymore. When I asked why not they responded that they've changed them so much from when we first eat them when I brought everyone a beef souvakli to work that day when I first introduced them to Mad Greek. I asked what had they noticed that had changed, they said the exact same changes that my husband and I have noticed. That got others interested in the conversation about it. Come to find out several coworkers feel the same way. Please return to making these wonderful dishes the way you used to. It's like the old saying goes.....why fix it, if it isn't broken? If the beef souvaklis made you famous the way you made them "back then" then why change a wonderful thing? I realize that sometimes change is good and makes things better. But definitely not the case here. Thank you so much for reading my review with an open mind and a sincere heart. We love you guys and want to have a good "old-fashion(if you will) beef souvakli. Thank you for your time....
Read moreI visited Mad Greek for the first time with a friend on a Saturday night. We were promptly seated and attended to.
Shirley P. was our server: friendly and courteous and prompt!
My friend ordered the Mousaka and was well pleased with it. I ordered 12oz Ribeye with mushrooms & onions, plus steamed broccoli and Greek-style potatoes.
I always order my Ribeye "medium" cooked. I've found that most places undercook it some, so that makes it perfect. Alas, this one was 2-steps undercooked with dark red center. Edible, of course, but not to my liking.
The steak was tasty, nicely seasoned, but a bit chewy. Not as tender as I had expected. The steamed broccoli was fine and the Greek-style potatoes were a surprise delight!
My friend recommended I try the carrot cake, saying it was the best around. He ordered a chocolate cannoli for take out, and I order the carrot cake.
Shirley quickly returned to inform me that they were out of the carrot cake. I asked what else they had and she said the hummingbird cake was similar. I had never heard of that, but, upon her recommendation, I ordered it "to-go."
Well, let me tell you, that hummingbird cake was just fantastic! Per their menu: "classic southern spice cake with pineapple, banana, pecans and the best cream cheese icing..." Now, I'm not a fan of pineapple, but I really couldn't detect the flavor in the cake.
Rich, moist, and a large piece as well! I'm glad i saved it for the next day!
I rated 4 stars because of the steak. I'll be back and try something else...PLUS that...
