Golden Corral Buffet & Grill — Restaurant in Joliet

Everything was awful. There was a time when Golden was at the Pinnacle of buffet superiority. That is absolutely not the case anymore. The food tastes awful. Unseasoned and not fresh. On many of the foods there was oxidation, darkening pointing to the amount of time it was sitting out. The premade salads all had a dark layer on top meaning they weren’t fresh and hadn’t been touched. The taco meat had a layer of dark crust you had to break through. All the soups had a film. You could tell when something was replaced because the old discolored, burnt, and dried up food was mixed it. Saw the employees do it and the difference in colors was clear. The spaghetti sat so long it was hard, even though it was sitting in water. The rolls were rocks. The honey butter looks like vasoline. The taco shells were stale. The pizza…oh lord the pizza….stiff and dry like a linoleum tile. The list goes on and the reason I notice it all is because I was a college instructor for 14 years in a culinary program teaching Restaurant Management. Starting at 20 yrs old. I’m currently 37. Not puffing my chest out whatsoever. All that was just to say that I have the experience and knowledge to know what I’m talking about and this is not a slam session of some a-hole customer. Honesty is needed. I used to LOVE Golden Corral. But the quality is non existent now. The bathrooms are atrocious as well and in the business we teach that the state of the bathrooms are indicative of the state of the kitchen. If that’s the case….well you fill in the blanks. One thing I will say. The Staff are absolutely amazing. Everyone is cheerful and running around very busy and the servers check in more than quite a few big name restaurants I have been to. And the communication behind the line is fantastic. And it’s conflicting because for there being such a great team morale and exceptional staff, the quality and cleanliness is beyond bad. I have never experienced two such opposite dynamics coexisting in the same place. I can’t speak for ALL Golden corrals still in existence. I can only imagine statistically that there are some somewhere doing well. But the few I have gone to in the past few years, have been disappointing to say the least. However the location in Joliet on Jefferson…..this is the location that has ended it all for me. I will not be stepping foot into another Golden Corral for the rest of my life if I have a choice. I had one of the worst days of my life with my kids, and my special need child with autism. There was a family across my table laughing of my child they were talking inappropriate comments towards how my son was eating. My son can’t help it. He’s a special child, beyond that the most sad part was that the staff, the waitress engaged into that behavior with the family across making statements, that child is nasty, that my child doesn’t know how to eat.that she was going to have to clean all that mess he was doing and the family was feeling sorry for her , they where so loud that me and my kids where able to hear the disrespect , after that I ask the waitress to come to the table and she did came , I ask her to bring me the broom and the dust pan and she did , we were humiliated and he was humiliated and no child no family should go through this but unfortunately we did the waitress made absurd comments of the mess that my autistic child Did due to sensory problems. I explain to the waitress that my child was autistic and told her that I knew that my child made a mess and that I heard they where all talking about my child behavior and she gave them so much confidence to this awful people who decided to take a picture of us with no consent , waitress respond was well you should of said something to them I don’t know nothing , when I ask to speak to a supervisor she lied to me directing me to a regular staff employee who also said that she was in charge of the store , confirmed by a real supervisor that I was lied . At no time no human being. Specially, a kid should be disrespected at any place by Disability sex or gender.im asking Golden Corral upper management to handle this situation immediately . I went back &-25-2019 another year older. They must have taken my review to heart because the food was much better and the constantly in the food was there. I tried meatloaf mash potatoes everything and it is now my favorite place to eat for me and my family. Thank u for listening.

The food is not the best, you'll get some hits and misses. One day the chicken may be good or not the same with other dishes. I got a reply and i answered. After posting a review on google maps i got a response and was asked to give ways to improve service which i felt was a nice touch on your companies part.

So on my birthday i went with my niece to enjoy myself while using my birthday coupon i was sent. thank you btw. I remembered the chicken being very good last time i visited so i dove right in. but to my surprise the chicken didn't taste the same i felt it was not the same and i did not enjoy it. a little to salty. the ice cream was not very good either. really what i would like is for someone to try and bring so consistency to your food so i or any one would waste food by not eating it. The meatloaf was horrible 2017 but ok tasting to me in 2018. do you understand now. i know you can't please everyone's palate and trying to make i get it but please try to do something with food so it's not bland or salty or meatloaf that tastes more like bread crumbs than meat. i will return again a try the food again i like the friendly staff who are very nice to me. i hope it helps. i also visited the other location not far from joliet this year also that's also a nice place but not as nice as the one in joliet. thank you...
