Where to begin. I debated leaving a review, but I guess my conscious wouldn't let me just let it go.
Let's start with I'm from GA and new to the area, I was looking for something other than Waffle house, I stumbled upon Eggsellent cafe.
Reviews were promising, so I decided to give it a shot. Upon entering the building it appeared to be a slow morning, the sign says seat yourself, so I sat down and waited for a waitress.
Sometime has passed and another gentleman walked in and sat at the booth in front of me. Within seconds the man is asked what does he want to drink and silverware is brought to him.
The waitress sees me and looks around wondering why I have not been helped. Well then about a couple minutes later a different waitress walks over to me and ask me what would I like to drink. After taking my drink order she comes back with my drink and ask are you ready to order or do you need a minute? I said I need a minute please.
This is where the story goes down hill, she walks to the other side of the building and comes right back to me within about 15 seconds, and ask are you ready? I look at her confused and she says "You said you only needed a minute" I then proceed to chuckle because I assume she was joking meanwhile she is staring at me. I then make a joke to break the awkwardness and say let me set a timer on my phone give me exactly 1 min and I'll be ready (I'm smiling as I say it) she didn't think it was funny and stared at me, I then am just confused so I inform her I never been here before. She proceeds to tell me about the skillets and then for some reason tries to tell me what an omelet is (I think everyone knows what an omelet is), then tells me she is going to give me more time to think.
She comes back takes my order and from here her whole demeanor has changed, I say thank you for bringing my food, she just walks away, I say thank you for refilling my water, she again walks away. She then proceeds to bring my receipt I stick my hand out to grab it, she lays It on the table and walks away. Last but not least, I pay for my food she brings back my card, and hands it to me and walks away.
No thank you, no have a nice day, and during the whole experience no engagement that she was even serving anyone. Now I'm not sure if it was due to my joke and maybe she got upset with me, or maybe she was having a bad day.
To me, for the first time in my life I felt like I didn't belong. I hate to even say it but being a Hispanic male, and walking in and seeing Caucasian clientele and Caucasian workers (Hispanic cooks tho), I felt like I was in a good Ole boy system, simply because of not being greeted or attended too, and seeing someone else walk in 5-10 mins after me and immediately greeted and served. Not to mention the way the waitress looked at me as if she just wanted me to leave.
I will say that the young lady that attended to the other customers appeared very friendly. And I don't necessarily feel this establishment is bad, I just wanted to share my experience.
I wanted a place to feel like home, and instead I received terrible hospitality.
The food was fair, I wouldn't have mind going back. But now that is too far gone.
Again I don't know the area, I don't know the people, but something seemed off that day. It's sad if people are still living their life that way. But again I don't want to blame the establishment due to the actions of one person.
Overall, check it out maybe it was a bad day, but for me I simply can't go back.
(To also note I tipped the waitress 20%, For I can not live with hate in my heart. Doing the right thing is always...
Read moreEggsellent Cafe has always been a classic since I have moved to Jonesboro. If you're wanting a hangover cure, you go to Eggsellent Cafe handsdown. This is my first time writing a review on them, and it was also my first time trying one of their omlettes. I ordered their Western omlette, while my friend ordered a skillet with a side of fries and my boyfriend ordered a Spanish omlette with a side of biscuits and gravy. Obviously I am biased, but honestly you have to order the omlettes when you go here. I can't believe I hadn't until just recently, because it is by far the best thing on the menu out of everything I have tried. The omlette wasn't full to the brim of vegetables or ham, but an equal amount so that there wasn't too much toppings where there was barely enough eggs or making the omlette too heavy where the eggs weren't cooked all the way through, and that there wasn't too much egg to the point where the toppings would have been useless. The fries were okay, but obviously you don't come here for the fries. You come here for the hashbrowns! I wish the hashbrowns would be a little bit more seasoned, but I understand not everyone has the same tastebuds as I, hence why you can salt and pepper them at the table. Speaking of which, my friend has many dietary restrictions, and they were incredibly accommodating! So if you're gluten free, don't be shy to come eat here at...
Read moreMy wife and I have been coming here for the last few months, breakfast & lunch. This place is Phenomenal!!!!! The food is always good and very generous portions & the staff is always very very welcoming and friendly. It always brightens up our day visiting this place to eat. They run this place so wonderful, and in Jonesboro most places are just awful, and I’m glad you have a place to eat that’s very good, especially on a consistent basis.
That’s a very bad problem in Jonesboro, you never know if the service or food will be any good and most of the places in town, sometimes you get just horrible service and food, but at Eggsellent Café you never need to worry, food and service is always perfect. So thank you very very much to the folks that work there, and please never change, you have a wonderful little café that is the best place for breakfast & lunch in the entire area. BRAVO!!!!
(FYI, I don’t give this high of a review to many other places, I am very picky when it comes to dinning out, whether its 5-star dinning or not, I expect service and food to be perfect, that’s what...
