TL;DR: Amazing Food, Great Service, and less than ideal lighting for photos. Try the Poke Bowls or a Rice Box.

We stopped in after hearing great things about this downtown japanase restaurant. The hype was not high enough for how good this food was.

I had a "Pick Your Own Bowl". The price is based on the number of "Proteins" you pick among other upgrades. I went fairly basic with 2 proteins (spicy tuna and spicy salmon) on a base of spinach and fried rice ($1 upcharge). I also added mushrooms (shitaki if I guessed right), avocados, ginger, edamame, and fried garlic. I also had some masago (a type of fish egg) added, but it did not stand out enough to be worth adding. On our servers recommendation, I picked Yum Yum for the sauce (and it was delicious) but I believe next time I'll go for something more interesting like Mango sauce and teriyaki seaweed on top.

My daughter had the kids teriyaki chicken. She loved it. It came with fried rice (which she also likes) and some story fry vegetables (which she avoided like they had the plague).

My wife had a rice box which looked much flashier than my poke bowl, but was every bit as good. Aside from the expected fried rice, she got teriyaki chicken, cream cheese wontons, tempura shrimp, and tempura chicken. The dipping sauce in the middle was some kind of slightly fruity-sweet chili sauce. The sauce amazing, and I think I could eat it and the chicken/shrimp without any other sides (and I'm not a huge fan of shrimp tempura).

We are already planning our next visit.

Update: on our next visit I tried the milk tea boba drinks. Wow! Best boba I've ever had. I got a Mango milk tea with Mango popping boba and even my wife who doesn't care for mango liked it. Additionally, aside from popping and tapioca boba, they carry crystal boba (less chewy than tapioca).

Before we left, I asked for whatever the server recommends to try. She came back with a Lychee and Coconut drink that was to die for....

I was looking for a place to eat with my partner so we ordered take out from Rice Box based on their appealing menu and good reviews. I ordered the Pokemazing Rice Bowl and my partner ordered a design your own protein bowl. When we opened our boxes to eat, I was shocked to see the extreme lack of protein (chicken and salmon) in both of the meals. My poke bowl literally had 4 extremely small pieces of salmon in it and the rest of the bowl was rice and vegetables (as seen in the picture). You can’t even see the salmon in the bowl because there’s only 4 pieces in it. For $15 dollars I would expect to get more salmon/protein. I was literally eating a bowl of rice with sauce. While the presentation of the meal looks great, don’t be deceived because there’s absolutely no meat, fish or protein. My partner had a chicken protein bowl and only had 4 skinny pieces of chicken and the rest was filled with rice and spinach. For someone who has eaten several Poke bowls in my life, this is a rip off. They should have labeled this a vegetarian rice poke bowl. In addition, I ordered a seaweed salad for an appetizer and finished it in two bites. That’s how small the seaweed salad was. I am disappointed and felt ripped off by this restaurant and will not be returning to support a business that doesn’t want to give their customers the food they advertise.

We were debating between Chipotle or this place for dinner. As an Asian-American, I insisted on supporting a local Asian-fusion business especially since we can get Chipotle anywhere. I’m regretting that decision now and we were better off getting Chipotle. I don’t support businesses that rip off their customers....

My sister and I attempted to eat at Rice Box this afternoon. I’ve eaten here multiple times (take out) and never had any issues and the employees were always so nice. We walked in and we’re ignored by two different employees. There was not a sign saying to wait to be seated or to seat yourself, so I asked the employee behind the bar if we needed to seat ourselves. I honestly didn’t know because I’ve always gotten take out. The employee replied “you might as well” and rolled his eyes. I made sure I heard him correctly and he said it again. We should have left then, but we seated ourselves. We sat down and waited for menus. No one came to our table, but two other guests came in and were immediately greeted and sat by the same employee. At this point, we left and I will not be back. I understand the weight of a bad review and would normally never leave a negative review, but I was shocked by how blatantly rude the employee was for no reason. I waited tables for several years and I would have never treated guests like this nor would the businesses I worked for have...

This is a great Asian-fusion restaurant and my family loves to eat here. They have poke bowls and they have ones that are standard on the menu and they also give you the option to build your own, which is what we usually choose. There are many ingredients they allow you to choose from when building your own bowl, burrito, etc. They also offer typical hibachi fair like grilled meats, fried rice, and vegetables. They have a good selection of appetizers too. The price is reasonable for what you get. The service has always been nice and friendly although it can be a bit slow during peak times. Overall a great place for poke and hibachi fair, would recommend.
