Dune Dog, A popularJupiter hole-in-the-wall of many years, is masterful at making simple, classic food sublime! Let me explain...
Dune Dog's entire menu is composed of regional American classics that you'll find at other coastal Floridian family restaurants - fresh fish dishes, baby back ribs and hot dogs, among other things. What sets them apart from others is that 1)the ingredients are fresh, of top quality and local (when possible), 2)the portions are plentiful, and 3)the prices are exceptionally fair (especially with regards to points 1 & 2)!
For example, one of their most recommended dishes is the Fish and Chips. This favorite of mine features two large, crispy fried fish filets (flounder, it seems to me), waffle fries and homemade coleslaw (or any other combination of two sides, if you prefer) all for the bargain price of just under $14! Unless you are ravenous, you'll be taking half of it home!
Their ribs are another great example - a full rack and two sides will set you back only $20 with change to spare! Mind you, they are the succulent, fall-off-the-bone braised variety that is slathered in sauce and finished on the grill versus the slow smoked kind. Still, they are quite delicious. In fact, come on a Monday night and you'll have the chance to pay one low price and eat all you care!
Their name sake hot dogs come in the regular and foot long varieties on buttered, grilled New England style buns and feature classic toppings like sauerkraut and onions or their locally renowned homemade chili! They're a great deal given that even the most expensive footlong still rings up at less than $6, I believe.
And I need to mention that their sides include rice and remarkably tasty black beans to top it, as well as crunchy onion rings... A few things you don't see elsewhere, and if you do there is often an upcharge.
I haven't even mentioned that they offer a whole host of other fresh seafood dishes and daily specials that'll knock your socks off, as well as having the hard to find, nostalgic thirst quencher Birch Beer on tap.
Oh, and I didn't even get to telling you that the Dune Dog is a covered, open-air roadside haunt that features stainless steel topped, lacquered picnic tables and retro spinning stools at the front counter.
Dune Dog is everything I've said and so much more. To quote and over-used aphorism - It's not just a meal, it's an experience.
Seriously, go there and find out for yourself. You...
Read moreWas one experience - a little long but gives you an idea of the food management service etc. This is my service dog, he has been with me everywhere, any restaurant in town, flying on airplanes, NFL games, bars, on boats, jetski, Paddleboard and motorcycles. He never barks and whoever saw him around town knows him as a sweetheart super friendly pup. Arrived to Dune Dog Cafe to have a burger with my running club buddies, sat on the bar as the line was too long, the dog seen something troubling and by doing his service he was communicating or alerting his owner by literally TWO barks (puppy barks) a gentleman name Alex walked to me and said - out policy say if the dog bark I need you to leave the restaurant. I asked if a child cries they do the same and he said “customer would complain” we asked if anyone complained and he didn’t respond just said “it’s on our website”. Ok ordered food - half ponder with extra pattie, look at the menu it is just meat, cheese and vegetables. Burger arrived loaded with Bacon… I don’t eat bacon religiously, called out the mistake they went to make a new one (in the meantime everyone else already eating their food). Burger arrived after everyone are already done, without the sides I’ve asked for…. Done eating asking for a check - the check says DOUBLE BACON, another added food item and the fries - I asked (after I paid) why it’s double bacon? And the price of the base burger is higher than the menu? They said “oh we didn’t have this button on the computer so we use this one” so I asked if the extra cost is for the extra pattie, they said no, there is an additional 7.99 charged for that… so why did you charge me on a different name burger another 1.5$? I would pay 100$ if I would pick it from the menu but without my acknowledgment adding cost to my meal especially after giving me rude attitude with a “have a nice day” after I asked questions about the service dog “policy” , they wrong order - and late delivery of food - I need to pay extra on the food???
Needless to say I’ll never step a foot there again, and it’s the first time I felt how the experience can change the taste of the food because in the past I enjoyed the burger but today I couldn’t finish it and it...
Read moreHighly disappointed with the service and food!! I am just not the type to even post reviews but I was led to believe this place was great-based on prior reviews. We waited appx 30 minutes (a party of 5) on a Sunday afternoon for a table. When we got our table our waiter (a young guy in a light blue shirt I wish I would’ve gotten his name) took our drink orders, then after someone else brought them, we didn’t see him for another twenty minutes. We finally put in our appetizer order, and before we could just tell him what we’d like to order for dinner, he left and was no where to be found. Our appetizers thankfully were brought promptly by other staff; but they said they couldn’t take our dinner order….twenty minutes later the waiter comes by again. Once the food order is in…it wasn’t long to get it! Just the matter of getting the guy to take our order was the issue! Even getting our bill from this guy was a joke, my teenager had to go up to him and interrupt his lackadaisical convo with another employee!
Then: the food. Cold snow crab. Cold crab cakes, got the crabby combo and everything was cold. Like maybe made previously and not reheated? My kids had the plain hot dog, no complaints. My boyfriend had the clam strips and fried fish. I tried the fish and I hate to say, I’ve had better fried fish at long John silvers. :( The clam strips were fine. Yankee nachos were fine but the chili on top was lukewarm. Pretty sure again it was older and just needed reheated. Simple stuff that really should not be an issue for a restaurant with so many good reviews! Are they paying for these people to write them? We spent $123 and when we left I wanted to go through a drive through...
