The place is in need of renovations and there are posted signs that state they are under construction, though we didn't see any construction started. I hope they enlist professional help, because some past renovations (I hope they're past anyway) appeared to be of DIY quality. An example of that is how the hallways, on our room's level, have laminate floors installed; however, they were installed without removing the existing carpet, making the hallway flooring thicker than the room flooring. All rooms on that level were missing their thresholds because of the uneven flooring. Upon entering the room, the lights and TV were on. The A/C was turned down so the room temperature was comfortable but I thought we were given an occupied room. In looking closer we could tell nothing had been dustrubed after housekeeping. The room was clean and well appointed with towels, sundries, and the usual comforts of home. Then, the air conditioner turned on. What a roar!! So loud we had to elevate our voices and you couldn't hear the TV. The exterior housing of the A/C was just laying on it, not attached, like someone had worked on it. We tried to put it back on but it wasn't happening. Probably the reason it was off in the first place. But we noticed the bed seemed to be pushed over, very close to the unit because the bed was not centered on the headboard and the floor lamp looked like someone had knocked it over because the lampshade was all dented up and place back in top without positioning it on correctly. The A/C was too loud and we had to ask for another room. In the new room the lights and TV were on again so it must be a policy of the hotel and the A/C was a perfect hum. But other items of disapproval, to us anyway, were: the poor water pressure; the new room's front door would not shut without great effort to pull it shut; limited TV programming, (What? No Weather Channel! A stable when traveling.); and the room was in need of a paint job. (Looked like something violent had occurred once upon a time.) Then, there was this RED BLINKING MESSAGE INDICATOR on the two phones in the room. I could not get them to do stop blinking even after following the directions. I called to see if we really had a message and was told "No. You must have the room with the message light that doesn't turn off". Ug. Had to resort to using towels to cover them. These grievances were all minor, but added up to make our experience less than desirable. But, to top all of the above...there was this bed "frame". A black metal box the size of the box spring that seemed to be invisible. So EVERY TIME you walked up to the bed you would jam your toes into it! Great for not losing things to that abyss-of-an-area under the bed, but baaad for toes! Now on a positive note, the hotel, though not that easy to find, is in a good location; close to the beach; animal friendly; the beds were comfortable; and the mini fridge and microwave were great perks! They are serving breakfast again and the coffee was good. The most notable positive item was the exceptional staff, always acknowledging our presence with a friendly greetings. Front desk employees listened to our complaints, and even resolved most of them! But most important, hours after checking out, we remembered that an expensive personal item was left inside the room with the bad A/C we had to exchange two days earlier. We returned to the hotel since we were still in the area, even though we believed "it would not be found". But lo and behold, housekeeping turned in the item and it was returned to us! Now that is honestly! Made up for all our minor grievances. With such a great staff this place could easily turn into 5 stars with those pro renovations that will be...
Read moreAmazing staff( Jennifer and Edward-you guys are awesome), clean rooms, pet friendly, filling hot breakfast, safe parking lot, and they handle mishaps very well in this hotel. We had a tiny hiccup and we were taken care of promptly, efficiently and professionally. I appreciate that when traveling as I tend to get irritated easily when it comes to hotels and exhaustion as I'm sure many travelers can understand. The pool, fitness center and doggy areas were very nice and clean. Our dog Echo really loved the free treats at the desk the staff were happy to give him(Jennifer quickly became his best friend). Walking distance to the Harbor...gorgeous views steps away from the bridge. Shares a parking lot with a Whole foods Grocery and Boston Market which made eating healthy easy and affordable. The kitchenette in the King suite was fabulous with lots of extra counter space and ample room to eat. Plenty of room for 2 of us to sleep in 2 totally separate areas with our own tv's. Would recommend if planning on using the sofa pullout to either bring a blow up bed or request a roll away as that mattress is far too thin to be comfortable for an adult. That is literally the ONLY thing negative I could say. We had our room very close to the elevator and we never heard the elevator or other people so this place is made well...no thin walls. Beautiful front entrance and nice breakfast area. Close to some fabulous boutiques and the beach. A+++++ Stayed 4 nights from July 17-21st.
Update* We stayed again Feb 26th- March 10th due to house rennovations and enjoyed it just as much if not more this time around. This time we met the General Manager Ingrid, super sweet. Jennifer is still there too, always an absolute pleasure. They have newly appointed rooms with fabulous colors, textures and updated amenities in the rooms. We had 2 rooms next to one another and was surprised at how quiet they are. Someone was caught smoking on our floor and they were quickly escorted out and the room was immediately torn apart, an ionizer placed in the room and the entire room washed literally from top to bottom-I was totally impressed at how seriously they take housekeeping. Breakfast was delicious, coffee, hot chocolate, tea and flavored water available for free 24/7 and they have a great snack area that you can purchase chips, drinks soaps etc from. 2 of our kids forgot toothbrushes and they happily gave them some complimentary. I really appreciate the small gestures like this that larger hotels have stopped doing. We have my sons graduation coming up in May and lots of family coming in form out of town for it-we have given everyone LaQuinta's number because we are so sure they will enjoy it as much as we do. Oh, and their new mattresses are a DREAM. My husband has chronic back issues that make his arms go numb when he sleeps...for the first time in almost a year he did not have numb arms at all and he hasn't gone 12 days in a row without numb arms in many years. Obviously its the fabulous mattress. We are now purchasing one through the company they buy from with the help of the sweet General Manager. 100 star rating for this hotel from us. Could not be more pleased!! All 7 of the Herndon's love...
Read moreHere is why we give this hotel 2 stars. Upon arrival we were 30 minutes before "check in time" and front desk person said no rooms were available yet. Really, all those rooms and one still not ready for a check in. Hard to believe. Well back out side and wait. Got back and yet 5 minutes early, oh now rooms are done. Great. Room OK but could use some detail cleaning and cosmetic work. Kinda like above front desk, all a/c ducts are filthy from dirty air. A/c working but has to be on 60 to get room cold. Waking up and breakfast was good if you like grainy eggs. Entering and leaving hotel front door you get the pleasure of second hand smoke from everyone congragating for their daily intake of nicotine and tar. Benefit if you smoke however. After a few days there, the a/c goes out. What a surprise. Called front desk and they wanted us to move rooms but asked if they could fix it. We had a lot of things to move. Had reservations for a week. They sent up a guy to look at it. Which turned out to be a janitor I think. He opens the front panel and a huge puff of dust engulfs the room. I told him that thing ain't gonna work with 10 years of dust on it. He said he was going to pull unit from one and bring to us. I said we will change rooms. Manager was nice and she met us at new room to look. She said it was upgraded room. Only difference is tile floor. By morning the key did not work after breakfast so we went to desk and and she reprogrammed key. After our ball games, key didn't work avian, went to desk and nobody was there. I heard someone in office but no answer. I finally said excuse me and I was told one minute. Waited 8 minutes and out came an desk person. Phone rang and she answered that and still waiting. Explained this was twice now about this key. She said we will sent repair guy. Well we waited for guy at door and we finally got key to work. 15 minutes and no repair guy. Left door open so we didn't miss repair guy and at 7pm still no repair guy. Found out that the lower level they let dogs in. I believe that why they have tile. I think they have a lot of long term tenants there along with construction guys. Laundry worked but most times we had to remove someone's clothing because I belive they forget they are doing clothes. All in all the best thing about this place is the price. But don't go here if you are concerned about customer service or...
