It is worth visiting Jupiter just to grab some grub at Little Moir's Food Shack. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you step inside the sticker covered exterior, you're in another place altogether. The atmosphere is playful with lots of eye candy and the background music struck a chord with good 80s and 90s tuneage. The staff is welcoming and helpful, and service was very good.
My wife and I were staying at a resort down the road which had excellent food too, but I had heard great things about the Food Shack and wanted to check it out. We're so glad we did. Our meal there was memorable to the Nth degree. It can get busy since it is also popular with the locals, so we arrived close to closing time and were actually the last ones there, though we didn't feel rushed to leave in any way. The entire meal was a relaxed, pleasurable experience and we had pleasant interactions with the guests seated to either side of us.
So how is the food here? In a word, awesome -- especially if you love seafood. Daily specials are published on their website. Our favorite dish was actually the least expensive on the menu - the Florida Citrus Chowder. This veggie soup is a soothing balm that tastes fresh (a bit like minestrone) and feels great in the tummy. It's worth stopping in just to get this. While my wife and I were tempted by the various fish entrees, we decided to just get appetizers. The signature Tuna & Basil Roll was fantastic and the unique Grilled Avocado was equally memorable. We also got the Warm Indo Nachos but probably could have passed on that one. The flavor was great, but more filling than the other dishes. The toppings over the homemade potato chips and sauce were tasty, but heavy. If this is the finger food you get or have a larger party, it works.
Though we were stuffed, we succumbed to the allure of their dessert menu. The White Chocolate Coconut Creme Brulee Cheesecake is out of this world and the Dark Chocolate Nut Mash is really good too. They come with sides of fresh mixed berries and fresh whipped cream and toasted coconut. Wow.
My wife and I both got one of the local IPAs on tap and it was pleasantly citrusy and hoppy. Perfect for a meal like this. We can't wait to travel back to this area and try other items on the menu. We're gonna get the Florida Citrus Chowder again though. This isn't a budget joint, but we thought we got great value for what we spent...
Read moreA couple of friends of ours arrived at the restaurant and called us to join them for lunch. When we arrived and announced ourselves to the hostess, she told us in a tone between frustrated and annoyed, that she had no one waiting, I told her sorry and that surely our friends did not inform her that they were waiting for us, but I asked if we could stop by to talk to them. My wife, my two small children and my mother-in-law entered, I could tell that the place would perhaps be at 20 or 25% occupancy and that there was no one waiting for a table at the door. We talked to our friends and sat close to them, but two tables away. Then, the waitress saw us and noticeably annoyed she went to the door, I followed her and when I got to the door I noticed that the waitress was arguing with the hostess, I interrupted them and apologized again for the possible inconvenience and asked her: if we could stay; The waitress turned her back to me and I listened when she said out loud: this is not possible, I'm going to talk to the manager, the hostess and I looked at each other incredulously as the waitress left, so to avoid any possible inconvenience, I decided to leave the place, I went to get my family and when I was leaving I saw the waitress talking to who I assume was the manager saying that: It was all a mess, that she couldn't work like that, so I told them, for the third time: I’m sorry, we're retiring as it seems to be something “very serious” what we were asking for. On our way out the hostess was already preparing to provide us with a table, I thanked her, but under the circumstances we were not going to stay. I know that for a restaurant to lose one customer is nothing, surely 10 more will arrive, but just as they say the good, you must share what...
Read moreI went a week ago to celebrate my brothers promotion. We called for reservations and were told they didn't take reservations and to use an app. As I'm driving, my brother downloads the app and makes reservations. Our reservations says 15 to 30 mins. We arrive and meet the 2 hostesses at the front outside. She checks us in and reports we are the first on the list, we are next. We sit down DIRECTLY in front of her. Empty tables outside and several inside too (I went to the bathroom) fine. I sit back down outside and my brother said one by one she was sitting new people down who were walking in. I observe a couple say, can we get a table for 2? Hostess says sure and asks inside or outside, and sits them down. I asked her and she said you didn't say inside or outside... She never asked! So then again another couple comes and she sits them down inside too! By this point I'm irritated and I speak to the other hostess and I explain our frustration and she tells me to hold on. She comes back and sits us down at a high top towards the kitchen beside the bar. We were outside an hour and a half. Then no waiter realizes we are there until I flagged someone down for assistance. I'm really disappointed... The food is excellent but my experience was poor and unacceptable. What was supposed to be a great night celebrating a special moment with my brother while he was visiting... Turned into disappointment and frustration. We read many reviews and heard many great things and were excited to try it out for his celebration. I was hesitant to share this experience but don't want anyone else to experience what we did. It's unacceptable and the 2 hostesses need coaching or more training on...
