I had already booked an upgraded room when I made the mistake of telling them I intended to bring my very old little cat. Knowing full well, at the time that we may be facing a CAT 5 hurricane, they said NO, and that they were only allowing service animals. Even though I am a local resident who has brought the hotel several weddings, family and other friends over the years, the reservation person REFUSED to let me even speak to the manager! Now, not only did I have to deal with a handicapped companion and all his wants and needs, I had to try and find a shelter for the cat last minute and after hours of phone calls, there was none to be found! I knew last year that they allowed pets, but THIS YEAR, I was told they would not! That is the ENTIRE reason I booked with them!
After checking in at 3pm, I went down to the pool to relax because the weather was still nice only to find a note on the pool door that they would be closing the pool in less than a half an hour! There was a wedding party in the pool at the time and while I was taking my quick dip, I heard MANY complaints about how there was no one to serve them at the pool bar so they had to buy and bring cocktails from the outside to give to their guests! After we were herded out of the pool area and I went back to my room, it took their staff a total of TWO HOURS before they came to gather the towels and put away the chairs. Speaking of towels, the towels they provided SMELLED BAD and were NOT laundered properly! I have a license in Cosmetology and I KNOW they were full of bacteria!
The room had a nice view, but the rest was just so/so. I was told that there would be NO room service or housekeeping for the three days because they were forced to cut back their staff.....however the bar tender told me that she had a luxury room right next to mine! They kept the bartender, and let the person that brings necessities like toilet paper and towels go home! I literally had to hunt down the TP and towels, extra soap on my own at this 5 Star Hotel! They knew I was going to be there for three days, yet I got two milks and two coffees in my room....no one thought to go the extra inch and stock me up a bit! The refrigerator in the room had no freezer, so I turned it up and filled it up with fresh perishable items, only to find EVERYTHING FROZEN SOLID the next morning! My Perrier water exploded all over everything and I was on my hands and knees cleaning it all up. The cupboard door came off its hinges everytime I opened and closed the fridge and the hinges had to be manually forced back on each and every time! To add insult to injury, on the second day....A VERY STINKY OLD NASTY LOOKING DOG was in the elevator with me and I said to the owner.....Is that your Service Dog? She said no, that they were allowing animals in at the last minute because of the hurricane. They charged me for a movie I never watched! I clicked on it to see the price, and they charged me for it! Called several times to resolve the issue....and no one called me back...as they promised to do! $22 for a movie? I don't think so!
It was a beautiful place, but the hospitality side of it was a...
Read moreWow! LOVE THIS PLACE! ||So originally my fiancé and I had booked a cheaper hotel right before the bridge for a quick visit for a wedding. BIG mistake. I could not even sit on the bed of this hotel, so I called the Wyndham Grand with clear anxiety in my voice. They told me they had a room available immediately and that they understood my panic. I had booked this hotel with ease within 25 minutes. ||We quickly grabbed our still packed suitcases and ubered 3 minutes to this amazing place. We got a king sized room (technically not a water view but we could see the bridge and water outside our window!). The room was an amazing size, with a large full length mirror outside the bathroom (which is a huge plus when you have a fiancé who takes his sweet sweet time in the bathroom). The lighting in the bathroom was great to do my makeup. The bed & pillows were so comfy and the AC was quiet for a nice, extremely peaceful, sleep. ||The natural lighting was amazing. I loved opening the blinds in the morning. There was ample storage for our suits/dresses, a mini fridge, a safe, an iron/ironing board. ||The staff was incredibly. Housekeeping came quickly in the morning when we took off the do not disturb sign. Sunday, we went to the pool and wow! It was so clean, relaxing and played great music! I saw staff replenishing towels often. They even had complimentary fresh orange infused water (YUM!). We had guac and it was so fresh and yummy. They had containers for sun screen and aloe as well. Shoutout to Benjamin (bartender at the pool) he was SO nice & friendly and gave us recommendations on what to see during our short stay. He even told us about Zeke’s golf cart (you call them to pick you up if you are local!) Benjamin, keep being you because you rock! ||We walked outside our hotel and everything we needed was right there. Breakfast, (lunch at the pool) and dinner! Nothing was more than a 5 minute Uber drive (we checked out the Square Grouper).||When we got back from dinner we sat at the hotel bar for a night cap where we met the nicest bar tender, William. We ended up staying for multiple drinks! He was super friendly, funny and made us feel SO welcomed. His drinks are phenomenal. William, also keep being you because you rock! ||I loved that the “key cards” were a bracelet and our access around the hotel. Made it super easy to not put it in my wallet and get it deactivated like I’ve done so many...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for a work training conference and must admit the hotel grounds, pool area and surrounding stores/restaurants are beautiful and well kept. The rooms are spacious and clean. The issue I had during my stay was my encounters with most of the staff (booking desk, lobby bar, cleaning services). I requested to extend my check out by 1 hour due to the extension of the conference, and was immediately denied my request from the front desk staff because my room was already booked by another guest. Check in is at 4pm, check out is at 11am. I believe an hour extension is not an unreasonable request, seeing that the cleaning staff still had 3 hours to clean and prepare the room. When I went to my room to extract my personal belongings and check out at 11am sharp, I noticed the cleaning staff removed my "Do not disturb" sign from my door knob, entered my room, began the cleaning process and left my room pried open and unsecured. This is completely UNACCEPTABLE. Another negative experience I encountered was with the lobby bar attendant named "Evelyn" while having breakfast with a co-worker. My co-worker previously enjoyed an espresso from the lobby bar and requested one this morning from Evelyn. Evelyn placed it in front of my co-worker and charged her over $5 for this tiny espresso! My co-worker, in shock, asked Evelyn to please confirm the pricing since she ordered one previously and only paid less than $2 (reasonably.) Evelyn was clearly upset about the request to confirm the pricing and began tapping on the screen of her computer extraordinarily rough. She then handed my co-worker a receipt confirming a price of over $5 and attempted to interrogate my co-worker as to who charged her a different amount. My co-worker felt the charge was excessive and turned the espresso away. Evelyn did not make any attempt to work with my co-worker and this seems to be the trend at this hotel. The staff needs extensive training in hospitality to make paying customers stay...
