Smallcakes Cupcakery — Restaurant in Jupiter

We were so excited when we found a coupon for this cute gourmet Cupcakery....everything about it was so sweet, and, wonderful...the shop itself was tidy and clean, and sweetly decorated....I believe the owner waited on us, and she couldn't have been sweeter herself....we ordered an extravagant 1/2 dozen assorted cupcakes....and couldn't wait to get home to a cold glass of milk and our lucious, sweet treats......My first one was the daily special; Pumpkin Cheesecake....the cake itself was lovely... lightly flavored, sweet, delicate cake.....and then I tasted the frosting......hmmmmm?????....this didn't taste anything like cheesecake, or cream-cheese frosting, and there was quite a mound of it atop my cupcake.....I took another taste of just the frosting....nope, definitely not cheesecake flavored, in fact, it was sort of flavorless...and it was VERY SWEET, and as I said, there was a lot of it....unfortunately, it turned out to be an intensely sweet, glob of indescribable (not in the good way) thick, sweet, something-or-other....and to be perfectly honest, the only reason I am writing such a pointed review is, because it is clear, this woman put her whole heart and soul into this delightful little Cupcake Shop.....but, she definitely needs a better frosting recipe. I took the 5 other cupcakes, and cut them up, and shared them with friends...One friend likes, extra sweet, so didn't mind that part, but of the 5 different flavors, no one could distinguish what the flavors were without my telling then, even when you know, the flavor is very delicate....what is overpowering is this thick, sweet, glob in your mouth....This is clearly NOT Butter frosting, or Creame Cheese....maybe some sort of marscapone(i don't think that is spelled correctly)- but as a baker, you should know what I mean--I remember back in my youth, my grandmother made a boiled frosting...this was sort of like that....Some flavors had a gritty texture, all of them were overly thick, and overly sweet, for the 7 people I had taste them....So please Smallcakes, please, please, please, take this as truly heartfelt, constructive criticism....your cakes are wonderful, your boxes, and packaging-first class, your shop adorable...we really are rooting for you....you just need better, and varied frosting recipes. I work in West Palm Beach and everyone I work with lives in so many different locations around Southern Florida and they are always telling me about these little local shops and places they frequently go to. Most of the time I've never heard of these places because I don't live near them, so when someone recommends something to me, I try to go there with an open mind.

In this case, I didn't need an open mind, just an open mouth so I can eat cupcakes. I told my girlfriend we were going to checkout a little shop in Jupiter and she had no idea what I was talking about. So when we pulled up she was really excited about trying everything. So we got 6 cupcakes, because when you go to Jupiter for cupcakes you get 6 for the 2 of you ‍.

We got a lemon drop, red velvet, chocolate cream, birthday, peanut butter cup, and cookies n cream cupcake. I'm not going to go through each of them, but my personal favorite was definitely Lemon Drop. Mostly because I'm a sucker for anything lemon flavored. I have to say that I was surprised by the little shop and yet how amazing the cupcakes looked. I'll be back for sure to try some flavors that were sold out before we got there. Jupiter not only has a great donut shop, but now it also has a great little...

My recommendation is to eat an entire cupcake before you buy a whole box of them, because you might find the frosting too sweet to enjoy the whole cake on your own.

Beautiful cupcakes and presentation, the actual cake part is fluffy and light. The frosting is creamy and thick but overly sweet in my opinion. I found it difficult to eat an entire cupcake on my own cause of how sweet the frosting is. I decided to just throw out majority of the frosting and just ate the cake part.. which kind of ruins the experience.

I wish i could give a higher rating because of how pretty all the cupcakes look but the reality is i would not want to spend my money on something i cant enjoy eating or end up throwing a part of away. I think a good cupcake would have a better balance of sweetness. I still have one left in my box and i kind of feel sick thinking...
