I am by no means a coffee aficionado. I don’t claim to know much but I know what I like. I don’t drink alcohol & coffee is kind of my thing. So I probably get more excited than the average person about a new coffee spot. I really wanted to like this place but my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. Admittedly my spouse picked up coffee & baked goods to go so I haven’t stepped foot inside, and I won’t. Strike 1: they double cupped my drip black coffee causing it to leak on me as soon as I took the first sip. This was completely unnecessary b/c there was a Coffee sleeve. Tried but couldn’t get the 2nd cup off so I poured it into a mug. Temperature was great but the coffee was bad! Tasted very weak and bitter. Strike 2: “Baristas” aren’t informed at all. I don’t like fruity coffee-think Ethiopian. Yuck. I favor medium to bold coffee and I drink it black. I like chocolatey or nutty notes. I prefer a pour over but I will drink drip. So my spouse asked the barista about the coffee choices and quickly found out that neither of them had any idea what they were selling. She told them I like to stay away from fruity notes like their Ethiopian and blood orange pour over selections. She chose a drip coffee instead. She asked about their selections looking for one with with choc or nutty notes. They admitted they had no clue about their selection. I think she just ended up telling them I didn’t want a fruittt cup of coffee. Eventually one finally consulted a bag of coffee and read that it had chocolatey notes so she asked for that one. Strike 3: I don’t think that’s the one I got. I ended up with a very bad, extremely weak, fruity coffee. Yuck! I asked my spouse if perhaps it was a soft opening but she said they are full tilt boogie open for biz. Even with newer employees my expectation is that employees can answer basic questions. I decided to try a baked good to see if there was any consolation here. I had a blueberry “scone” which was not a scone at all. It was more like a coffee cake. 1 bite in I decided it wasn’t worth finishing-Underbaked and not tasty & the inside wasn’t appealing to the eye. Instead of fresh blueberries, it looked fake and off putting. My spouse ate an “Everything bagel bomb” and was disappointed saying it was more like a croissant with cream cheese inside. To be fair, she had an iced cinnamon coffee w/ honey and said it was decent. I think if you put enough syrup, sugar, cinnamon or milk in, almost any coffee will taste good, but that’s just me. She liked her drink. She also got a chocolate muffin which neither of us have tried. And again, I really wanted to like this place. I like the concept of The Seed from their website. But ya gotta train your peeps to know your product and it should be quality. Case in point: An informed barista from Subculture clued me in that a cup of coffee is perfectly well balanced, in need of no sweeteners, and introduced me to the pour over. I wanted to add honey, but he insisted that I try it first. I was instantly hooked. So I’ll stick with Subculture. To be fair, I enjoy Perk Coffehouse in Tequesta -great food too, and Dunkin Donuts drip coffee. Starbucks is convenient for a Pike Place or latte and the seasonal Chestnut Praline Latte w/ 1 pump of syrup (not 3) works too. Starbucks breakfast isn’t great but on the go, it works. So The Seed...
