Stamped Robin — Restaurant in Kalamazoo

Stamped Robin has been a favorite cocktail bar of mine for years. They do have delicious drinks. However this evening, my husband and I were out for our friend’s birthday and we encountered the rudest bartender. My husband had 3 beers total and I had one non-alcoholic drink and he asked for one more beer and the bartender cut him off. He then asked for the bill and the bartender accused him of asking for another beer. Again, he asked for the tab and the bartender just lost it and started screaming at him. Our group had 9 people total and he put everyone’s tab together and slammed it on the bar and told everyone someone had to take care of it. Others had fancy drinks that were much more expensive and we all asked for our own tabs which he refused to do. The bartender then told us to give him our cards and he would split it up evenly. Everyone was calm and asking for the lady bartender to come over and divide our checks so we could pay and leave. The bartender was still just yelling at our group. Very very uncalled for and super unprofessional. This is the first time we’ve been out to Kalamazoo in a year and we were very excited to hit up our favorite cocktail bar and with this experience we will never come back again. Thankfully the lady bartender divided everyone’s tabs but he continued to say things even as we were walking out. I have worked in the service industry for years and I’ve never seen a bartender attack a customer like that. My husband was not wasted or disrespectful in anyway. Arrived around 10pm to have a cocktail with my three friends. We saw an open table and asked if we could have a seat and was answered with a scoff and a rude “no” from the host. They pointed at the back room and said “go there”. Confused we walked over and were given no menus. When we asked if we could order with him he said “uh yeah sure” like we were randomly there. When my friend ordered a water she was treated like she was wasting time. I ran into someone I knew who was at the bar. I asked 3 bar tenders for a glass of wine and was told I couldn’t order anything unless I was sat at a table. This is a bar. Even if that is a policy, I can respect that but customers should know you won’t even be spoken to unless you’re properly sat at a table. At one point the host pointed at me and said “she hasn’t sat down once!” Like it’s a daycare and I need to be sitting nicely in a circle to even be acknowledged. Pretentious and awful. The absolute best cocktail bar I've ever been to, full stop. ALL the staff is knowledgeable about their cocktails, warm and welcoming, and willing to answer the many questions I have about why they used particular ingredients to create their drinks. I've traveled all over Chicago and Michigan in search of boutique cocktail lounges, and none of them hold a candle to Stamped Robin. Anyone who doesn't rate this joint with 5 stars across the board is doing a disservice to the entire Michigan cocktail community.

SIDE NOTE: In the back of the bar room they have a renovated CD-Juke box with modern albums. They printed off the labels inside the machine on beautiful, mid-century style card stock. This attention to detail is a great example of how this business is run. I seriously cannot express how in love I am with The Stamped Robin, the ambiance they've created, the fantastic drink selection, and the wonderful staff who make this place...
