My name is Mike, I took my wife and 2 girls to dinner this evening. When we entered the restaurant we were warned of a commotion that had just taken place. Standing at the host station we waited an abnormal amount of time to be greeted by anyone while watching a female server converse for a very long time until I had to catch her attention. We were then taken to a table and left there on our own with no communication. After several minutes we decided to take it upon ourselves to go to the ingredients line. We were still not acknowledged at this time. Our food was cooked in a prompt manner. While observing the preparers I listened to one of the cooks tell of him having to deal with that situation among all the other things he had to deal with. I believe this caused the line to back up. At the same time hearing how the flat top was not hot enough and one more thing to deal with. Which brought to my attention the lengthy beard that was not covered all the while him gossipping to the other cook. Fairly unpleasant wait in line. After getting my plate. I returned to the table with still no service and drinks. The waitress was nowhere to be seen. I walked to the server station to ask for chopsticks and maybe drinks. I was to to find chopsticks at the host station and she would be by to get my drinks order. There were no chopsticks. Another customer and I started looking for chopsticks to find none. Our server showed up to get drink order and returned twice without them. When I asked about the drinks I was told they are coming as though they would be served by someone else. When we did finally get our drinks. Which were water for my wife and two daughters. Which I believe should be first thing when ordering, which our order was never taken. By this time we were mostly finished with our meal. While eating I observed our waitress doing a lot of talking to friends sitting by host station we had to personally stand to get her attention to get our bill. At this time she takes my credit card and stares at me for a very long uncomfortable time until I have to ask her to please run my card so we can go. When I received my bill she had overcharged me an extra meal charge. When I asked her to fix it I let her know how dis satisfied we were and she outbursts at me that I am not welcome to come back ever. I have been visiting this establishment for many years and have enjoyed the offerings you present. In the last couple of years it is noticable the difficulty in staffing and I am sorry for that. While she is yelling at me I enter the kitchen to find someone to talk to because there were quite literally no one on the floor. I asked for the manager and he identified himself. While the server is yelling at the side of my face I express how I have never witnessed the gross incompetence our server presented. It was clear the manager had his hands full and I dismissed myself from the kitchen area. You will not go out of business without my patronage but I would not subject my family to that again. It did provide a great learning opportunity for my daughters to see the worst side of restaurant industry and why they would not want to work there. The poor bus girl who was trying so very hard to keep up and apologize to nearly every table she was able to accommodate. Hats off to her in that...
Read moreHuHot in Kalispell, Montana, immediately piqued my interest as a lover of Mongolian grill cuisine, especially the all-you-can-eat variety that promises the indulgence of "meat sweats™" with a generous serving of veggies on the side. Despite being short-staffed, the team at HuHot worked seamlessly to ensure a pleasant dining experience, exuding friendliness and efficiency.
The restaurant's ambiance is ideal for a date night, with plush booths offering ample space for the feast that awaits. The subdued lighting and darker tones create a cozy atmosphere, perfect for leisurely dining.
HuHot offers a wide array of proteins, including chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, and tofu, generously portioned to satisfy even the heartiest appetites. With separate bowls for proteins and veggies, guests can customize their meals to their liking.
Vegetarians will find plenty of options among the abundant vegetable offerings, though those who prefer their plant-based fare uncontaminated by meat juices may want to exercise caution. Aromatics like scallions, onions, cilantro, and jalapeños add depth of flavor to the dishes, elevating the dining experience.
The variety of sauces available can be overwhelming, but with a little experimentation, guests can create a personalized blend that enhances the flavors of their creations. A base of chili oil, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and lime juice serves as a solid foundation, with additional sauces adding layers of complexity.
I would like to recommend the following for optimal flavor:
It's crucial to ensure that the grill is adequately heated to caramelize the ingredients quickly; TURN IT UP. Also have some water available to flash steam ingredients. This is customary at the majority of establishments I've been to.
To The grill masters: further enhance the experience by engaging with diners and putting on a show, turning the cooking process into a fun and interactive experience, and remember that smile.
In conclusion, HuHot in Kalispell offers a delightful Mongolian grill experience, with a plethora of options to please every palate. With a few tweaks to the grilling process and a focus on customer engagement, it has the potential to become a favorite dining destination for locals and...
Read moreIf you love Asian food and can figure out the sauce blends, a stir fry customized to your specific taste is always a win. This is my kids' most requested place to eat out, and when I ace the flavors, I love it, too. I've been to a few Mongolian grills and a few Huhots, and as far as this one goes, it's pretty much par for the course: the aesthetics are fine, the protein and veggie selections are pretty good, and the staff are typically super friendly. For one chain-wide nitpick, while I and my family enjoy the salad/soup option for dinner, I definitely question whether that's necessary. But my one big critique is that this location isn't as efficient as others. Sporadically messy stations could be due to fewer staff for a location that isn't as constantly packed with guests, although I've never questioned their cleanliness from a health perspective (although serious allergens should always exclude a place like this). And the cooks are almost always extraordinarily amiable, but the grill can be a bit chaotic. I attribute much of that to one gripe, which is that this location allows guests to bring up two bowls at a time; it causes confusion, because the cooks always have to ask whether my bowl goes with another, it causes inconsistency in laying out portions on the grill, the varying portions can't cook at the same rate, the finished meals often don't fit on a plate very well, and from the guest's vantage point, while one might get a huge, perfectly done meal, there's much bigger risk of getting a huge meal that misses the mark. In an all-you-can-eat situation, there's really no reason to risk the dissatisfaction and food waste. Also, I've been offered the wrong plate twice, which accounts for at least 1 out of 5 visits so far (probably due to extra cook time needed for giant meals). I get that some regulars might not initially like changing to one bowl per visit to the grill, but it would really help improve efficiency, consistency, and overall quality. We love this restaurant, though, and...
