Norm's Soda Fountain — Restaurant in Kalispell

A hidden gem of Kalispell! If you are driving downtown it is likely that you would pass this place based entirely on its name, but I would recommend stopping in especially if you have kids with you.

This place, in may ways, is like an old school dinner. It serves burgers, hotdogs, and chili fries. And as the name would suggest they have a large selection of fountain sodas that can been custom made. But it also has a great variety of custom shakes, malts, and other kid friendly drinking concoctions. I had their huckleberry shake. It was absolutely divine! Huckleberry may be one of my new favorite fruits after my visit to Montana.

Another great thing about this location is its immense candy selection. They could be considered a dedicated candy store with how much they offer. So if you have a sweet tooth, this place would be a great stop as well.

It has a wonderfully old-timey atmosphere. Almost like a saloon. They have a nice carved wood “liquor” shelf behind the counter where they keep all their drink add-ins to make their large variety of sodas. Its like a perfect modern recreation of a western saloon mixed with a 50’s/60’s burger dinner.

In addition to having candy, drinks, and food it is connected to the authentic antique western clothing store. So if you are waiting for your food, you should definitely go and check it out. We were in Kalispell because because we were visiting Logan health and heard about Norms soda shop so we walked over showed up around 7:30 which was a half an hour before closing.. there was a crowd of people hanging out out front seemed really popular and busy.. when we went in and it took a while for somebody to take our order even though we were sitting at the counter.. all the girls seemed pretty busy trying to close up shop.. finally took our order and the presentation of the ice cream and everything was absolutely wonderful!! The kids loved it I even ordered a banana split that was delicious!! After we were done eating we walked around and picked out some candy.. all in all it was a good experience and it was super fun for the kids!! I feel like the girls could have been a little more friendly.. even though we were coming half an hour before closing the customer should not feel like an intruder before closing time.. just saying... We enjoyed the chili fries full basket and it was more than enough for 2 of us to share. The fries needed some salt, but other than it was exactly what we wanted. Chocolate malt was good and we experienced our first New York Egg Cream! The egg cream was.....not quite my thing, haha. Maybe more chocolate milk would’ve made it more enjoyable, but it was neat to try something new. The huckleberry malt was our favorite! Our server was friendly, but could’ve been a little more attentive. No water refills were offered and we had to go to the counter and request silverware after our food was brought out. We had nearly finished our basket of tasty chili fries when the malts and dessert drinks arrived. The entire staff appeared to be very busy behind the counter with prep for closing up (we visited an hour before they closed) and maybe that’s why we were overlooked.
