Ok...where do we start. Atmosphere was nice, the catfish sandwich was actually the best part of the meal, besides the Vegan Orange Cake (which was on the house) because the little chocolate desserts they brought out, WERE FROZEN SOLID (Totally unacceptable in any situation, ESPECIALLY during restaurant week where you are attempting to bring new business in.) You can also see this in the pics we post for this review. The salad was pleasant and the soup was almost tasteless and way to plain (as you can see from the pictures) The waitress literally seemed to be rushing the entire time, and was bringing out the new course before half of the one before it was even eaten. The gravy they put on the meatloaf was veryyy thick and you must love mushrooms, without alot of flavor in your gravy to enjoy it for sure. The managar/owner came out to inquire/talk about the FROZEN chocolate cake dessert and literally walked up almost all the way to the table TALKING ON THE PHONE TO SOMEONE (Poor taste indeed). She did say she would make it right by another dessert and had the NERVE TO SAY "Well I am offering you something else that's at least 11 or 12 dollars by itself, lunch is 15 total" That should not matter! This is restaurant week, your supposed to be putting your best out there and then try to make excuses and make us feel like WE were in the wrong or cheap for saying anything, bot cool. If YOU as a manager and your kitchen staff/serving staff were doing their due diligence to begin with, YOU WOULD NOT HAVE BROUGHT OUT A COMPLETELY FROZEN SOLID DESSERT! Overall this place will be a NOT RECOMMEND in our book, simply because there are too many other places just like it in Kansas City. Places that do not rush you through your meal. Places where the management staff are humble and accepting of the fact that THEY MESSED UP, instead of trying to be smart/rude about it and where the overall food quality...is simply just better. Overall 5/10, I really wanted this place to shine but the longer we were there the lower the score became. Shame on you "Blue Bird Bistro" for being poor sports and also the lack of quality during Kc...
Read moreWent for restaurant week on a Saturday. Service was lacking. I walked in was the only person there waiting for the host. Employees kept walking by and looking but no one said a word. By the time someone walked up to the host stand to help there was a line of 10 people standing at the door. Even though, I was literally the first person standing there, helped and seated two other groups standing behind me before even looking at me. Finally got to tell her that we have a reservation (which I just heard one of the other groups standing behind me say they did not have reservations) and I was told it would be a few minutes. Really not sure the point of a reservation on this day. Finally got to a table and then had to wait again for a server to bring drinks and order. I want to tell everyone the place was packed when we walked in but it wasn’t. I want to tell you they were short staffed but there were employees running around everywhere. Then in the middle of our meal had an employee walk up and ask us if we had made a reservation. Not to make fun but I felt like I was in La La land. Maybe it was just this particular day. I think they have an interesting regular menu. We ended up doing the pre-set menu. The first course the salad was delicious, wanted to lick the plate, and is the last salad listed on the main menu. The second course was a chicken corstata. It tasted fine. Served on a big plate by itself, Looked odd. I wanted to ask if that’s the way it was supposed to be served. At this point I didn’t have it in me to go down that road. The dessert course I did not care for. It was a cute muffin but not flavorful. I know it’s a boutique kind of restaurant and the goal is to be unique. But this day it wasn’t connecting. That being said I would still recommend that you try Blue Bird. The menu looked creative with lots of...
Read moreThe owner at this establishment needs to work on her customer service and professionalism. Very disappointed in her ability to speak in a kind tone to her own customers and diffuse a situation that may have been confusing for both their establishment and guests invited to a brunch. As another person stated around a year ago, she was extremely unprofessional and made comments making all of us feeling unwelcome and tried taking away a table from us since our other guests hadn’t arrived. As we all strive to have great experiences, kindness, exceptional food and make memories, I will never offer my support of this business and I feel sorry for the servers if they are treated poorly by her. I’m sure most of them want to remain on her good side, but ladies and gents, there’s wayyyyyy nicer people to work for than someone who belittles and doesn’t know how to stop poking. The service industry is hard enough and as someone who works with people and in the general public, this will end up becoming very problematic if she does not work on more effective communication that takes her out of it. Because comments like “I’m giving you permission to sit and put your things here for now”; “you girls are having difficulty absorbing this.” “Okay, so if the other two are not coming, I’m taking this other table to use for others.” “Let’s try to remove YOUR negativity and have a good time, girls,” (as we were sitting quietly after ordering drinks and looking...
