I chose the Crossroads Hotel Ballroom as the venue for my son and now daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner. It was expensive however I wanted the evening to be perfect and worry free so I stretched our budget to make it happen. Unfortunately, I equated the high fees charged by Crossroads hotel with their competence and that was a huge mistake. I secured the ballroom over a year in advance and we were so excited to host this special dinner at what we thought would be a fabulous location. The planning process was ok, not without issues however things did get sorted out. I worked with Sable and Erin in finalizing our plans. I did not know at the time that Sable and Erin only sell the space, then they step out. They do not see it through to make certain the event goes smoothly and expectations are met. We had issues at the very start of the evening with inaccurate placement of one of the bars and incorrect table cloths for several tables. These things could not be corrected by staff and we just had to let it go. Then the AV system wasn't working properly, the wine being served was not what had been discussed (and included in our contract), and the bartender for one of the bar locations was very rude. The AV system required a manual change to go from music to the microphone being used for speeches. After being assured their staff would be responsible for manually switching over the equipment, they were not in place to do that for us which meant my daughter had to walk across the room to switch the equipment for each speech. We had seven speeches. Their staff never stepped up and took over. Dinner was to be served family style with all serving dishes placed on each table at once (exception being the salad which was served first). This was all discussed in a planning meeting with Sable and Erin several weeks prior to the dinner. That evening, their staff served a bowl of vegetables and then we waited a full five minutes before a bowl of risotto was brought to each table. It took another four minutes for the beef, potatoes and chicken to be served. So in all, it took nearly 10 minutes for the full meal to be served - family style. I cannot imagine what fresh chaos we would have dealt with if we had selected a plated meal! Our evening was spent with one stressful situation after the next. Every issue that came up could have easily been avoided with attention to detail and proper planning on the part of the staff. We had even more issues than I have the space here to articulate. We felt as if no one was taking any responsibility for our event. I reached out and connected with Sable following our dinner to share our disappointment and issues. I also requested they consider providing a partial refund. (They had charged my credit card for the balance due on Monday following our dinner.) While Sable seemed to be rolling her eyes as we spoke, she did send me a kind email letting me know she would be discussing our issues with her manager. I then received a second, less kind and somewhat dismissive email from Sable letting me know her manager, Vicky Haberkorn, had approved a small refund and if I had any further questions I should reach out to Vicky directly. I did have a few questions and reached out to Vicky via email. I have yet to receive a reply to the message I sent nine days ago. This was an important night and I left that evening feeling embarrassed and so disappointed. The Crossroads staff was not attentive to detail, they were unprepared for our event and not competent enough to fulfill even the most basic aspects of our contract. I do not recommend Crossroads hotel as a venue. Their fees are way too high for the level of service provided. Look elsewhere for a location with a more experienced staff and solid reviews showing their competence in...
Read moreI am not the one to write any type of online review, but I felt it was appropriate given then awful experience I had.
It was my first time at the crossroads hotel and I don’t really drink so I had asked if they still serve their coffee and my server kindly told me they stopped making it at 7, which was totally fine so I asked if they had any sort of coffee at all. She was kind enough to bring me a coffee with cream and sugar on the side. I drank a few sips of my coffee and it seemed to taste very odd so I had a few of my friends try it and also taste the creamer and they had informed me that it was sour and expired.
I kindly let my server know, and she brought me out a new cup of coffee with new creamer and apologized. Before pouring the new creamer she has given me, I had asked SEVERAL people in my party to smell it before I had drank it again, and one person taste it and they had told me it was expired. Again. At this point, I did not want to make a big deal out of the whole thing, because to me it was not a big deal. I work in the service industry for almost 6 years, and I understand that things happen sometimes, so I just was going to stay quiet and drink my coffee black with sugar. But someone on my party had insisted the manager come over.
I watched as the manager came over to our group WITH the carton of creamer in his hand asking us “who said something about the creamer being expired?” The girl who asked him to come over didn’t say anything, I thought she would since she’s the one who insisted a manager come over. I said to him “she was the one who wanted to speak to you” and he looked at my coffee and looked at me and said “well you’re the one with the coffee” I was a little taken aback by that remark, but I kindly said “oh sorry I think your creamer was expired again” he took the carton of milk and points at the expiration date and said “I opened this brand new carton for YOU and the expiration date is right here. It’s NOT expired.” At this point, I didn’t know how to respond to this type of behavior from a manager and just said “okay” and he responded “I just want to make sure there are no problems”
This type of behavior really shocked me. As a manager, if someone complains about a food or drink item, for you to bring over the “evidence” and try to tell me it’s not expired is completely unprofessional and inappropriate. Just because there is an expiration date on something, doesn’t always mean it’s good. Sometimes while food is shipped or delivered, it could be sitting in the wrong temperature. Sometimes seals break. There could have been many reasons why the creamer could have been bad. For you to try to prove me wrong? And the way he spoke to me was so passive aggressive. It was almost like he was trying to argue with me. Regardless if something is good or bad, as a manager, that should not be the way you speak to a paying customer. He did not even apologize to me for the first expired creamer. Did not ask if I wanted my bill comped, did not ask how everything was. NOTHING. Just tried to start something that wasn’t there.
When the rest of my party was ready to leave, I felt that it was right I at least get my $6 back for plain coffee and expired creamer. So I went to the bar and kindly asked him to refund my money since I had not even drink it. He looked very confused as if he didn’t know what he was doing and sat in a daze for a few seconds. Eventually he refunded the amount and I went on my way. This was probably the worst experience at any restaurant/bar I have been to. And once again, I am not one to write reviews, but I strongly felt like someone needed to know about this. Your manager needs some manners. Also, there was a huge fruit fly in my friends tequila shot, no compensation for...
