I always hate leaving reviews but I hope my experience today can be a learning experience for the team and not just a negative review.
I will start with the good; we are out of town guests who love first watch in our town, we were in town for a bridal event and night on the town, we chose first watch ! our server while I didn’t catch his name was fantastic, the atmosphere was amazing and the management was great as well, I think this place is as good with their team as my hometown first watch, our food came out fast, and platted as usual, it looked fantastic, I had a breakfast sandwich from the fall menu with some greens, when I went to pour dressing on my salad and went to take my first bite I noticed a few little green leaf bugs that could have been easily overlooked but I’m happy I caught….I got pretty ill at this and while I understand all first watch is organic with no pesticides and I appreciate it I do believe proper washing of my salad would have prevented this…while I went to the restroom my father in law found a piece of plastic in his salad, manager did come over and offer our meal to be remade and free of charge we just couldn’t finish out our meal there and headed home for the day, I believe going forward washing the salad well will prevent issues like this from happening…I hope the team knows I appreciate their due diligence and do not blame them at all, especially our server but kitchen staff could take note on the rinsing the salad. I hope to not offend anyone with my review but to build a...
Read moreFirst Watch is usually one of the best brunch places in the KC metro, especially for people like me with food allergies or restricted diets.
The local chain, as a whole, has been one of the safest, most reliable for me to eat at for 10 years
But the Westport location was never my favorite. I just visited again with friends after several years.
They've completely remodeled and clearly put a lot of effort into making the location nicer, but where it was lacking on this visit was the food.
We had three orders of scrambled eggs. All three were runny and surprisingly small. They said we each got three eggs, but that was hard to believe.
My sausage was slightly undercooked, while my country potatoes were both slightly underdone and slightly burnt (cooked too hot, too fast).
It was a packed house and it seemed like they were too swamped and/or understaffed to maintain their best quality.
The worst part was that I ordered a gluten-free meal and was brought the regular version with toast on top.
Since I have celiac, I can't have any gluten at all, and had to send the whole meal back (which I hate to do!)
The wait staff handled the mistake well, took back the contaminated meal, and brought me a new, gluten-free one.
But the fact that my new meal had the same quality issues as those of my friends tells me it wasn't just a one-time problem.
I hope management continues their obvious efforts to improve, especially food preparation, training their wait staff in handling food allergies properly, and hiring...
Read moreI have only been to the Westport FW, but have gone here for a cpl decades. Not sure where to start, but they really need some attention.
I’ve left twice in the past few months because I was sat and never greeted even though multiple servers walked by and gave me the side-eye “not my table” look, for up to 10 or 15 minutes.
But i decided to try again today. SAME experience! I was about gather my things and give up when a flustered server finally greeted me, and he seemed nice and well intentioned so I stayed. also there were literally as many tables in the restaurant (6-7), as there seemed to be people in uniform.
i’m not a jerk, and I’m also a server at an upscale restaurant for a very long time. So I will say that since they updated their menu/scheme a few years ago, the offerings and the food quality are really improved! But I can’t get past how tacky it is, even during daytime service, to not greet a table within 5 minutes- and worse- to have other servers knowingly let someone sit unattended without asking if they have been helped or offering to get a drink. AND I wish all restaurants would get away from letting servers drop a ticket before a person had even started eating! You don’t know that I’m done. I never said I have to go quickly. This isn’t trying to be some truckstop diner, right??? It’s very pushy and tacky. If you’re trying to have rustic, farm fresh, modern quality and steeper prices- be better than Denny’s or...
