Stopped in for dinner with my husband. I forgot what a gem this place is! A delicious burger and fries for only $11! You can't even buy a horrible burger and fries at McDs for that! We placed our order at the counter and the lady there was very nice. We sat down and waited for our food. We ordered the fried pickles and they were perfect! The pickles weren't slimy like some places make and they were easy to bite through without the whole pickle sliding out. The breading was also nicely flavored and fried to a perfect crisp! We both ordered a burger with pepper jack cheese and grilled onions cooked medium. I got curly fries and he got onion rings. Our burgers were both cooked to perfection and the meat tasted so good and fresh. The fries and onion rings were good too, but seemed like they were sitting while our burgers cooked since they were barely warm. We dressed our burgers ourselves with all of the condiments and toppings available in the bar next to the pick up window. I hadn't been here since covid and wasn't sure if they were still a cash only business, I could not find an answer on their website either. They do offer an ATM in the restaurant since they are still cash only. They have some really good specials too! I'd suggest coming early for a special day since Sundays are half off burgers and alcohol starting at 8pm and by 730pm that place was getting packed. We did have to walk up to the bar to order drinks since the server never asked us or made herself available for us to ask her for drinks. That was the only negative we experienced. We ordered a couple of drinks and they were delicious and...
Read moreI wanted to love this place, I’m always rooting for the local guys, but it was such an unpleasant and chaotic experience…there’s no other way to say it. I’m from KC and chose this spot to grab a casual dinner with my family who still lives there and between the cash only, the excessively loud environment, the bizarre layout of where to order, where to pick up food, how to get food/drinks, our order being incorrect and having to shuffle back and forth across the whole place many times (wasting valuable and limited time of my visit)…it truly ruined and wasted what should’ve been a pleasant dining experience with family, supporting a local establishment. It’s a slap in the face to patrons to make them spend that much time running around and not just being able to enjoy the experience and the food. I hoped that after all of the other disappointments that the food would at least knock my socks off…they weren’t knocked. It was very average (which is why this isn’t a 1 star). I’m certain the high rating is only because it’s a “local classic”, but for today's standards, patrons deserve much better than this establishment provided. The craziest part is that it would be such an easy fix, to modernize, streamline, and improve the process here. I don’t get the desire to be subpar, service and experience-wise. I look forward to supporting businesses who respect their patrons time and wallet (no “cash only”, atm fee nonsense) on my future...
Read moreThis place really fell off hard,no clean tables, first off when you eat at the flea market you order your food at the counter, the robust woman at the counter dressed like a mechanic in coveralls was rushing us to order, and the waitress is supposed to come and ask you your drink order separate from the food order,on this particular night the young slim curly hair brunette never asked me and my guests what we’re drinking,we attempted to get some drinks from the bar and she set her phone down and rolled her eyes at me then proceeded to fill up several foam cups not the traditional hard plastic cups they have had for like forever and sets them on the bar I’m no cheapie so I give her several dollars tip for waters not sodas, waters.i sit down and wait for my name to be called all the while watching her serve alcohol to patrons and not receiving any tips,my name gets called and I get my food (from the man with no hair net or gloves grabs my fries and sprinkles them in my styrofoam box we asked for dine in)and I set back down and notice we are all on empty and I see the waitress walk by and ask her for some refills to which she pfffts me.i swallow my spit eat my burger and on the way out I look into the window and see the bacon setting out still from when I walked into the place.i will never go back to this place the novelty and community feeling you got when you eat there is...
