My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant and decided to dine in. It closed at 10:30. We got there at 10. The little old lady looked at the clock when we asked could we eat there. Some older man said something in Chinese and she said yes. We get menus and order food . She asked did we want something to drink. I said two glasses of water. She said two bottled waters, their $1.00 each. I said ma’am we want a glass of water. She says we don’t serve water here. I am thinking WTH. She said customers always get orders to go. It’s expensive in this area. I should have left then. She began talking about how her restaurant is the cheapest in the area. I am thinking I don’t care about that. So she stands at our table ranting about the area and how it isn’t a good area. Goes on to say she’s been in business for 35 years. I could barely understand what she was saying. Make no mistakes this is the Chinese restaurant on 36th & Broadway. Then she goes and get a stack of receipts and starts showing us how much ppl have given her for tips so far. I am thinking lady it doesn’t matter I won’t be back. I am not sure if I ate chicken or not. I woke up on Mother’s Day with diarrhea. Food tasted okay but portions were small. Then she asked were we from the area. I said no I live north near the airport. We get the receipt and there’s a charge for $1.00 and a 50 cent charge which I am guessing was for the pitcher of water. NEVER AGAIN…we did leave a cash tip but she...

This restaurant is a gem. A true treasure of Kansas City. I've been coming here for the best Chinese food I've ever had for over a year, and I've loved every experience.

I do mean experience!

Here are the hard facts about this establishment.

The food is the best Chinese food you will ever taste. Everything is fresh and created with skill and care. The flavor blends amazingly, the food is fulfilling and unlike the deep fried Chinese food I grew up on - you are full and don't feel gross afterwords.

The vibe is straight out of a Wes Anderson film. Everything is adorable and the vibes are amazing. A little dated, but that makes the place charming. It is exceptionally clean and well maintained.

The only bad review you will read is about the service. To that I say "Get real". There is a slight language barrier, but the owners are fantastic, kind people. Any confusion should be overshadowed by their exceptional service, outstanding value of food, perfect taste and the awesomeness of this place. I would venture to say that anyone who has had a bad experience here probably has a bad experience most places they go. Kindness needs to be given to be received.

This is an amazing and original experience from start to finish. Come for exceptional Chinese food, enjoy the atmosphere/owners and fall in love with Peeking House!

Best ever!!! I wish I could...

I am incredibly picky about Chinese food. I love it, but I'm careful about where I go because some many restaurants serve nasty food that's been sitting under heat lamps for hours or has been reheated multiple times. If you're looking for for delicious high quality fresh Chinese this place is definitely the place to go. However because of my recent experiences I will never eat in house. This ordered for carryout a week or so back and the lady who took my order was slightly rude. Luckily I was too hungry to care. When I arrived the first thing I see are signs on the door. One says "$2 minimum drink purchase to use restroom" which I thought was kind of strange but maybe nessesary with all the drunk people on the weekends. Then there is another one that says "No dirty clothes, no dirty shoes" I brushed it off and went inside. There were other signs around the register about what they charge for everything from duck sauce to chop sticks. I left feeling unwelcome but when I got home and ate my food it was so some of the best I've ever eaten. This morning I thought I'd stop by for lunch and found that they were going doing atv11:30 even though both Google and the sign on their door said 11. I will probably eat here again because the food is great, but I will never eat there.bi will always be...

Been here twice now and here's what we ordered: Appetizers: - shrimp toast: crunchy fried shrimp breaded. Great flavor and texture. - crab rangoons: cheesier than others I’ve had. Not really my fave. - fried pork dumplings: Order these for sure. Mains: -Shrimp lo mein: shrimps were great and the whole dish was packed with flavor. -mushu pork: it came with what tasted like tortillas but we were eating it by the fork-full because it was so good. - sweet and sour shrimp: came with sauce on the side! Love this because then the shrimp were crispy and hot when they arrived and you could sauce yourself. - general tso bean curd: I got a little spicy and it was perfect mix of heat, savory, and sweet. The tofu has a good texture and taste. Drinks: - the hot tea is so good and Heidi is very quick with refills. Dessert - we also got the fried doughnuts and it was a huge portion for $5.99. - Heidi also threw in some almond cookies for us and they were the perfect subtle sweet.

The place I usually go to is closed already, and after a long trip, I didn’t want to cook… I was with some friends and I threw this spot out as an option … it was about $75 for 2 house special mei funs, orange chicken, crab Rangoons, and an order of shunai… the only decent thing was prbly the Shunai, but even then it’s my first time trying it… the orange chicken didn’t even feel like chicken… not crispy at all, it was literally just sweet mush… my friend and bro said it was most likely old reheated chicken.. the mei fun didn’t have any flavor, just salty… crab Rangoon’s were mid, I don’t think I’ll be ordering again…
