We attended with another couple because the show looked very funny and Ron Megee was hilarious in a show we had seen at New Theatre years ago. Overall the show was very fun and we enjoyed it. Parking is a challenge in the area but we arrived early enough to get in the main lot. Show instructions had recommended that we arrive early and have a drink in the bar. We expected the bar to be a room with tables and chairs. It turns out the bar is a walk-up counter to order beer, wine, or mulled wine. There are a few chairs and a few stools to sit on in the hallway. So "the bar" is a bit of an overstatement. The theater is a small venue, similar to a black box theater, for those familiar with one of those. It is an intimate setting where you almost feel part of the play. The performers don't use microphones as they aren't generally needed in such a small venue, however if the audience laughs a lot or interacts with the performers, you will miss some of the dialog on stage. Read moreThey say laughter is the shortest distance between two people and laugh we did. I recently attended the play, “Designing Women” at the Unicorn Theatre, celebrating friendship, and it was fabulous! The cast and creatives were amazing, while the play evoked so many different emotions - clearly leaving you with the thought that human connections and conversations are important, despite our differences on significant societal issues.
Great performance - good laughs - cheers to valuing live theatre - freedom of speech!
By the way, it must be terrific because the play has been extended to until October 5th, so get your tickets and support local theater...
Read moreThe Unicorn is a great local theater company. The show selection is interesting and diverse. It seems to specialize in edgy productions - mostly plays, but the occasional musical. There are two stages in the complex - one small one and one larger one, but neither is very big. Both stages have very good sight lines, and all seats are close to the stage. The productions are top notch with great actors, sets, and lighting. There are two small bars - one for each stage. One disadvantage is that there is usually only one person pouring drinks, so sometimes the line gets a bit long. You can preorder drinks for...
