This rating reflects the play area, not the entirety of Hyde Park, which is very nice for teen/adult visitors and dog owners.
The play area at Hyde Park is adequate, and I often find kids and families visiting, though I more often find people passing through while walking their dogs. For the size of the area, it could benefit from some more play equipment. As is, there is just a single pair of swings and an small sized park playground with slides attached. It is suitable for toddlers.
There are benches available for parents to sit on, but only 2, and they awkwardly face away from the play equipment. So as a parent, you'll have to stand or twist around to keep an eye on your little ones. If you plan to stay a while, I recommend bringing a picnic blanket.
There are no public bathrooms or water fountains here, but there are plenty of wonderful shade trees. There are also trash cans and sometimes doggie poop bags available from a dispenser--so if you have a pet, bring your own bags.
The area is not fenced, but it is a good distance from the road, so no problems there. As a heads up, this area often attracts homeless visitors who will sleep on the playground benches or under the park trees overnight, and occassionally in the afternoons. There is also a rehab house nearby, with women who visit the area for some peace. Just be mindful and considerate of their space.
Bonus: on most Sunday mornings/afternoons, 7 Swans Creperie parks on the road next to this playground, so bring some money for lunch. The food...
