I met up with my brother to have lunch at this place today so we could play some darts. However, my brother got there before me and was already seated. The waitress asked for his ID and showed he is 20. Now normally if you are 18 you can be there before 9 P.M. It is roughly 3 P.M. by this time. The waitress then tells him he needs to leave because he isn’t 21, and has to wait for an adult. ( I received a text from him saying they told him to leave until an adult gets there). So I get there and we walk in. I then ask for the darks so we could play. The guy named Erick said if I wasn’t his legal gaurdian or parent we couldn’t be there. Even though it is 3 P.M., and I’m 29. So I asked when did that change. He then proceeded to tell me it is state law. So we leave. I’m pissed because we just wanted to eat and play darts. So I call a friend who happens to know the guy. I asked him has that changed recently. He goes no, and I said he probably was just saying that to refuse business instead of just saying it out right. So I called the sidepockets in Blue Springs. They said as long as my brother was 18 or older he was fine until 8 P.M. That they are privately owned, and can have the right to their own rules. She actually apologized on Erick’s behalf since it was 3 P.M., and we didn’t even do anything. So then I call side pockets north still upset. Since I live behind it, my husband and I spend money there almost every other week. The guy named Erick would not give me his managers name, and kept saying it is state law. Even when I asked when did it change from being after 9 P.M., to before that, and he kept repeating himself about state law. So I said, why not just say your refusing service since my brother is not 21 and you don’t want the liability. Still said it was state law. So I hung up. Funny thing, I have been to sidepockets with no issues even when I was 18. Also, he owns the same one on Lee’s Summit. Probably a good idea to call ahead of time, just to make sure you can even go there. Also, I have been going there to this specific one for six years. Never had any issues, and now won’t go back. You have lost a customer, and that sucks because I...
Read moreI've been going to this side pocket for over two years now with a group of friends for ufc events, and whenever we get Eric as our waiter we get excellent service. For the most part we don't really have any problems from the staff.
Oddly tonight we get a really bad waitress. A person from our group got there first and waited 20 minutes before the waitress went to help him. She walked up from behind him and threw the coaster from onto the table and said what do you want. When we get there she finally brings the drink and tells him he can either pay as he goes or start a tab but she needs his credit card so she can charge each order.
We politely tell her that we've been coming here for two plus years and never heard of that rule ever. She throws an attitude because we were shocked at the response and sudden new rule and immediately told us we could talk a manager.
The manager was an older bald white guy and he had an attitude from the onset. He told us we had two options and we can pay as we go or give them the credit card. We again asked why we have never heard of this new pay as you go rule or hand them a credit card and he just rudely told us those are our options. We refused and asked for another server but was denied.
We always tip our server extra because on of UFC nights we take up an a table. I always order a lot of food but tonight only ordered a coke but we had to pay for the sodas up front as well. Even on my friends receipt they put Korean on there....I'm like for real. I will not be supporting this business ever again for the horrible and rude service. Oh and we are not even Korean but that shouldn't even matter.
I finally tracked down our usual waiter and asked about this new rule we never heard of. He apologized and said I quote,"if they don't know you or trust you they make you pay up front." I almost lost it but just thanked him for the prior services and said good bye. I will never support a business that profiles...
Read moreSide Pockets has always been a great place to go in the past, but NOT ANYMORE! On Sunday evening, between 5:00 and 5:30, I took my 14 yr old son in to eat and give him some tips on how to better his pool game. After playing a couple of games, we ordered dinner at approximately 5:36. After placing our order (therefore committing me to pay for dinner), the waiter decided to tell me that my son could not shoot pool after 6 p.m.! He could still be in the establishment, but could not enjoy playing pool while I could continue to play! I've checked all the other locations, and they do not have this "rule". The manager, an old bald headed man with glasses and the personality of a rock, acknowledged there are no signs stating this "rule", and that they don't need one and he also refused to tell me who the owner is (I assume he is actually the owner but afraid to admit it). They clearly have no clue as to what it takes to run a successful business. Side Pockets north will not get another dime of my money, looks like we'll be supporting the BRASS RAIL, right down the road from now on. Sounds like Side Pockets likes to...
