I took my mom to Brew Top for the second time to play Monday night Bingo last night. We went in, ordered food with water and joined in the second game of Bingo. When that game was over, the DJ went around to tables giving out the next round of bingo cards. I laid my head down on the table while he was handing everything out. Mind you, I’ve only ordered water and food. The waitress asked are we ready for the ticket and is it one bill. I replied yes and went back to closing my eyes to enjoying the music. She then came back around after 5 minutes and said to my mom on her side, “it is illegal to sleep in a bar.” My mom instantly looked it up online on her phone to see that it was a lie. After a couple more minutes and putting the my credit card out with my ticket, another lady came over and grabbed the ticket and card as if she had an attitude. According to my mom, another worker there started making gestures from across the room taking his hand on his chin and lifting it up as of he’s trying to sign language to her. Minutes later, the same lady that came around to take my ticket and bring it back walked up and said “ma’am, we’re going to have to ask you to sit all the way up, we’ve asked you several times to not sleep.” My mom immediately butted in and said, “no y’all haven’t. Y’all haven’t said anything to her. As a matter of fact the lady came and said to me that it’s illegal to sleep in a bar and it’s not. And not even the one sleep!” The lady proceeded to say it is, as I’m writing in the tip information for my ticket for “0” and putting my balance on the total line because I’m appalled by the whole approach, “so you are aware?” I responded, “I haven’t even had a drink in here ma’am. Have a good night.” She then said “ I mean you can hang out if you’re going to sit up” as if she’s commanding me. At this point her approach was so offensive, the best thing I could do is stand up and say “ have a good night.” As I’m grabbing my wallet to go. She immediately said “OK” while rolling her eyes and turning around to walk away. The most uncomfortable part is that we were the only African American/ Black group in the bar. My mom even told the lady that she was being racist. So, I would advise, if you want to have a comfortable or enjoyable experience as a black person, DO NOT VISIT THEM! Brew Top in North Kansas City, off boardwalk going towards ambassador drive behind Walmart. My mom was completely embarrassed and I was irritated. It was near midnight and we only came in to play Bingo, which we originally thought would be a nice experience. If there were 0 stars available l, I would have chosen it. The said part is I order food from them more than often, almost weekly in the past couple months for sure for my whole household. And to be stereotyped because we are black as if we weren’t going to pay the ticket first, and second to approach in an abrasive manner when not one person came up and said anything directly to me is completely offensive. So not only did they loose a good paying customer, my whole viewpoint of what their good time consists of is...
Read moreOne of the worst experiences of a GENERAL MANAGER at a restaurant I've ever had. Our (pretty darn good) server needed is to tab out because she had to love sections. Annoying, but ok. We pay and everything seems fine. A new friend joins us and our new server never comes by.
About 15 minutes pass so finally someone goes over to some servers to mention we have no server. The servers give attitude. My friend asks for a manager. About a minute later, we see the manager conversing with our first server. It's obvious they're talking about our table because they both keep looking over. Next, the manager disappears into the back.
Nearly 7ish minutes later he comes to our table. He listens to my friend explain everything. I chime in with the fact that I'm most concerned that a manager was aware of an unhappy table and STILL hasn't asked us if we need anything. He said he "had to get the story from both servers involved."
I asked, "Shouldn't your first priority be making sure your customers are taken care of?"
"My first priority is to understand the issue."
"I completely disagree," I said. "Is there a general manager?"
He proceeds to tell me he is the general manager. I ask for a card for the district manager and am told there isn't one. I ask for a card for the owner and am told, "communication with the owner goes through me." I asked who signs his paychecks. He says he does.
I aka awaiting a call back from the manager of the Overland Park store to see if I can find out who is in charge of this manager who has his priorities all wrong. We were ready to drink all evening. He...
Read moreI've lived in Kansas City for 9 years. I've moved a few times but always pretty close to this location. Used to be one of my favorite places visit/ order takeout from.
In the last few years this place has gone really down hill. My wife and I used to come here almost every weekend and stopped in the last few years because the service has gotten so horrible. I understand its a pub, I'm not naiive and I understand its not the Capitol Grille, its just the amount of times we've sat for 30 mins+ waiting for someone to take our credit card to pay when the place isnt even busy got old.
Still, I like the Baja Chicken Salad so I still order it to go from time to time. It's my go to when I can't decide what I want for dinner. I did the same this evening, and it will be my last time ordering anything or visiting Brew Top.
This salad is supposed to have a chili sauce that comes with it. Anytime you order it to go they never give it. I actually bought a chili sauce from HyVee to keep in the fridge since I ordered this salad so often and the amount of times they don't provide it. It has literally become a running joke between me and my wife. Today once again, no chili sauce. I checked before I left, then I had to argue with the bartender to get it. When I got home I found it also did not have croutons and I found exactly 1 slice of avocado. They have also raised the price on this salad to $16. I get that inflation has made this necessary to raise prices, but it's just not worth it anymore for the crappy product.
Long time...
