You would think a university that is suppose to study themselves approved wouldnt be so quick to judge a book by its cover.... pious hypocrites like the pharisees . If I can be honest I am very upset I have been coming to this cafe for about 3 months at least once a week well sometimes I take my little girl with me. I asked the front desk clerk if we could play at the park adjacent to the building while I read my Bible they said no it's just for the church the one down in the center at the campus we can play at , we get there and as we pull up a woman just so happens to be walking right by the park looks at the security guards and laughs or scoffs unsure, security stop and pull out what seems like as if they barely got there suv in park before they both jump out and say what business do you have here you have to leave this property .... I won't be coming back here especially since they made my little girl very very sad... they very rude and I very upset I'm starting to build my own very bias opinion about the general public in north kansas city I think I just need to stay down...
Read moreI got to visit this coffee shop today and as a public (non-student) visitor, I had a great time.
A couple of tips: There is limited parking at the Student Center where the coffee shop is located. I parked at the chapel and walked up a short hill to get to the entrance. You can see the coffee shop from the entrance, so easy to find. The seating options are varied as there are a couple of tables and high tops for laptop users and some great comfy armchairs that are also available. The wifi password is posted on the wall by the main doorway, so that was a bonus. There is outdoor seating as well, just off of the main entrance, which is next to a Christian bookstore (that is also open to the public). The coffee is local (PT's) and the drip was good and very reasonably priced. They have a nice pour over menu as well but I didn't sample those this time. I enjoyed the welcoming and beautiful architecture and was able to get a few hours of work done at this new-to-me spot. Very thankful it is open...
Read moreAs both an alumni who loved the namesake professor and a local native crying out in the northlands coffee wilderness, I deeply want to love the Tomlinson café.
The quality of coffee and offerings are stellar - worthy of the name honoring the former New Testament and Greek professor! However, the amount of times I’ve showed up to get coffee (after checking to see if they were open on Google) only to find the doors locked and the shop closed is unacceptable for a business.
It’s getting to a point where I’m not sure that I can recommend it solely because I don’t know if it will be open when it says it will be. The staff are friendly and the coffee is great but please update your hours so that people like me don’t drive all the way out here only to be met with disappointment and a locked door. You’ve got so much going for you, please just update your hours if they change, in this case,...
